Southampton Confirm Romain Perraud Departure
Saints have announced that left back Romain Perraud will leave the club on 1st July after 3 years at St Mary's, to join La Liga side Real Betis.
This has been well reported, but the confirmation is now through as Southampton FC have announced that Romain Perraud will join Spanish side Real Betis once his contract anniversary has been passed on July 1st.
Perraud spent 3 yeas as a Southampton players, although the last year was spent on loan at Nice where he would make just 2 starts plus another 17 games off the bench.
In his two seasons at St Mary's he would start 40 of the 76 Premier League games he could have played plus another 9 games off the bench, scoring 2 goals.
In truth that was more than he might have played, with the injury to Tino Livramento in 2022/23 he got far more chances than he might have got.
Southampton are believed to have received somewhere between £3-4 million for his services and that will all go towards the transfer kitty and perhaps just as importantly will free up a few bob in terms of his wages coming off the books.
He was a whole hearted player, but he was a more traditional style right back, rather than the wing back type favoured in the modern game.
He deserves to be thanked for the time he spent here, but to be blunt, if we are to survive in the Premier League we need to move on and I wish him all the best in his future career.
