Southampton At Rotherham The Preview

Its 22 unbeaten in all competitions for Saints and on paper this looks like being the 23rd or the 21st if you count League games only, but Rotherham came from behind to get a draw at St Mary's so will be no push over.

Southampton return to league action at Rotherham looking for another win that will put the pressure on Ipswich, but with Leeds United at Bristol City tonight they could find themselves having dropped to 3rd ahead of this game if the Yorkshire side get a point that will draw them level or the win that would put them two points ahead, albeit having played two games more than us when we kick off at the New York Stadium.

So it is important that Russell martin puts out his strongest team, in truth having rested most of it at Watford on Sunday, I don't think there will be much deviation from the side that started at Swansea, but with David Brookes swapping places with Charly Alcatraz on the bench and someone coming in for Mason Holgate.

We have to go into this one with confidence, with the same swagger as we had in the first half at Swansea, but with a bit more killer instinct, we also have to avoid getting too complacent as we did in the final half hour in Wales, unnecessary changes cost us our shape and organisation and we got lucky late in the game, Russell Martin has to learn from that and not make changes just to give someone a game, most of the fringe players got a game at Watford and will again in the replay on Tuesday, so there is no excuse for taking chances just to play a player or two.

Now it is important to keep up momentum and that means being relentless.

Attack wise the addition of David Brookes offers dimension to our play and he has the experience at both Premier League level as well as playing at Bournemouth for a promotion winning side.

So we just have to keep on doing what we have done so well, there is no room for sentiment of favourites as we head into the last third of the season, it is just about grinding out results and at the same time keeping improving our goal difference which could be crucial come the end of the season.

Rotherham start the day rock bottom 9 points off of safety, but they are a side that will play without fear, they have nothing to lose, they have to win games, at home they have won 3 and drawn 6 of their 14 games at the New York stadium, scored 16 goals and let in just 18, they know how to keep things tight, we have to get in there and score goals, they don't have the firepower to get back in the game if we can get a couple of goals ahead as we did at Swansea, but unlike that game we need to put it to bed.
