This January Saints seem to be linked with just about every winger on the market and the latest name to be linked is currently plying his trade in the Scottish Premier League with one of the Auld Firm clubs.
A new name has emerged as a potential Southampton target according to the72.co.uk and he is 22 year old Israeli International Liel Abada.
Just how popular he is up at Parkhead give that the Infamous Green Brigade Celtic fans group have recently courted controversy with political gestures at matches supporting Palestine is unclear, as is whether rumours of his transfer are to do with the player himself wanting out because of it.
What is known though is that Saints, Watford and West Brom are said to be interested in taking him South of the border.
Essentially a right winger who can also play as a centre forward, since joining Celtic in the summer of 2021 he scored 10 goals in 32 appearances in the SPL in his first season with 7 assists.
In 2022/23 he also notched 10 goals and 5 assists from 29 games, but this season he has barely featured after tearing a thigh muscle at the start of September which kept him out until the first week of January.
He is said to be now down the pecking order at Celtic after his three months on the sidelines and as mentioned whether from the players perspective politics is playing a part.
Abada could be in Southampton on Wednesday with Celtic U21's playing Saints at AFC Totton in the Europa Cup, whether he will be seeing a bit more of Southampton in the near future is said to be on the cards from sources up north.
Valued at around £7 million Saints are said to be looking at a loan deal rather than a permanent transfer, the reports also mention that with Southampton already having plenty of wide options game time is far from assured, however it seems that his agent is working to push him into the spotlight and given the current situation in Palestine, it might suit both club and player to take a break.
