Keinan Davis : Swansea City just couldn’t afford his wages

We have been told that everything was in place for Keinan Davis join the Swans, and the club were prepared to break their current wage structure to get the player in over the past week. However the sticking point was those wage demands.

Aston Villa had agreed for Davis to speak with the Swans, which his representatives did throughout last week.

That’s here —> Davis delayed

Things were organised and yes, there was a provisional date over the weekend for the player to finalise matters. Unfortunately, on reflection a sell on fee and those wages proved a step too far for Swansea City. Davis commands a huge contract at Villa, rumoured to be well over a million pounds a year. The four year deal he was looking for would have put him on at least twenty five thousand pounds a week, potentially closer to thirty.

Then there was the signing on fee which again was well above anything the Swans have paid since they arrived back in the Championship.

The Swans withdrew from discussions but not entirely leaving the door open for Keinan’s representatives at Tier one to return if they found the clubs offer one they would like to pursue. The weekend deadline came and went and today we hear that the player is in the final throws of a move to Udinese in Italy.

With that all ‘seemingly’ wrapped up it seems the Swans have failed in their bid, which on the face if it was somewhat speculative- and although there is a day and a half left of the transfer window it’s unlikely anything will come from this. The Swans now find themselves, as with many clubs this summer window in a race to complete moves for those players they have lined up. Selling clubs hold the cards for sure, and as we understand with Josh Tymon at Stoke, his parent club, have increased his transfer fee considerably.

We genuinely expect there to be some movement of players coming in despite this set back, however as we said yesterday, who and for how much is a regular deadline day conundrum for Swansea City fans.
