Wayne Rooney Wants To Manage Southampton
Perhaps the most bizarre rumour of the last 24 hours since Nathan Jones was sacked as Saints manager, is that former Everton & Manchester United player & Derby County manager & current DC United boss Wayne Rooney wants to manage Southampton.
Of course when a manager is sacked there is no shortage of candidates to replace them, most have absolutely no chance of getting the job and to be blunt you would hope that Wayne Rooney would fall into that category.
Various media outlets have been carrying the story with 90 mins claiming that not only would Rooney like to take over at St Mary's but that "intermediaries from the camp of the former Manchester United forward have been in touch with Southampton already"
Truly bizarre, although his playing career cannot be denied as being great, his managerial has only been underway since the summer of 2020 when he was appointed Derby County manager, he lasted there two seasons and resigned after the club were relegated to League One, although in fairness to Rooney they were in administration for most of that time.
He plotted up at DC United midway through the 2022 season.
Another man with former Everton connections is also said to be keen, the same report claims that Frank Lampard is also interested in the job
