Jan Bednarek Signs New Four Year Deal !

Saints have just announced that central defender Jan Bednarek has just put pen to paper on a new contract at St Mary's, another one down several more members of the squad to go.

Saints have just issued the following press release.

Southampton Football Club is delighted to confirm that defender Jan Bednarek has signed a new, long-term contract at St Mary’s.

The centre-back today put pen to paper on the four-and-a-half-year deal, which sees him extend his commitment through to the summer of 2025.

Bednarek, 24, has developed into an integral part of the first-team squad since moving to the club from Lech Poznan in 2017, starting all ten Premier League matches so far this season, taking his total number of appearances in a Saints shirt to 85.

As well as becoming a regular for the club, Bednarek has also graduated into a senior international with Poland during his time with Southampton, earning 27 caps for his country, which included representing them in the 2018 World Cup finals.

He follows in the footsteps of James Ward-Prowse, Oriol Romeu, Shane Long, Will Smallbone, Jake Vokins and Nathan Tella, as well as manager Ralph Hasenhüttl, to sign a new deal with Saints since the summer.

Ralph Hasenhüttl said: "I am very happy that Jan has extended his contract. He’s a Southampton player but he is also still young with a lot of potential, so it is good for us to strengthen our commitment with him.

"He is a good example of someone who has worked hard to establish himself with us and I think he can continue to improve here and be an important player for us in the future.”

Jan Bednarek said: "I think it’s the next step in my development. I feel like this is the right place for me at the moment, and I can really enjoy my time here.

"I still see myself as a player who can improve a lot at this place, so there was only one decision for me to sign a new contract and help Southampton to become a better club.”
