Saints Have Six Injury Worries Ahead Of The Newcastle Game

Saints are playing on Friday night against Newcastle knowing that a win will send them top of the Premier League albeit probably on a temporary basis, but they look like they will have to battle through adversity, here is all the latest injury news.

Danny Ings is the big doubt for the game after damaging his knee against Aston Villa, it is very doubtful he will play a part, although initial scans show no permanent damage, the club need the swelling to go down so they can check again to make sure, but the chances of him playing on Friday are slim.

Ryan Bertrand is another big worry, the right back went off with a hamstring issue, but he appeared to have come off before pulling up with any real damage caused, so the club are hopeful that he will be fit to face the Geordies, having nipped the problem in the bud as soon as the player felt the injury.

Jan Bednarek seems to have been the biggest miss after he came off at Villa Park, but it seems that he was taken off as a precaution after still feeling a little shaken and dazed after his nasty fall when he landed on his head.

But it seems that this was precautionary with Saints being 3-0 up at the break and he has recovered now with not lasting damage.

Moussa Djenepo was named on the bench at Villa and having had another few days recovery from his hamstring injury will be fit again to face Newcastle.

Will Smallbone is now back in training and could feature in the squad, but with the arrival of Ibrahima Diallo he will probably struggle to get in the squad for Friday night.

Last but not least is Mohamed Salisu, media reports say he is on the brink of being named in Ralph Hasenhuttl's squad after a month of full training aimed at getting him match fit to the Austrian's demanding standards, but he has not yet played a game for the club at any level.

He might be a surprise addition to the bench, but it will depend on whether Jan Bednarek is considered to have 100% recovered from his fall on Sunday.
