Saints Targeting Hasenhuttle's Ex Players

Saints are being linked with giving new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl a reunion with a couple of his ex players in January.

The two players in question are Davie Selke a striker who played under Hasenhuttle at RB Leipzig before joining Hertha Berlin for around 8.5 million euros in July 2017, his first season started with injury but in the Bundesliga he eventually played 27 times scoring 10 goals.

This season has not been so prolific and the 6ft 4 1/2 inch 23 year old has managed only 1 goal in 12 games, although he has mainly been used off the bench.

Former Germany striker Klaus Fischer described Selke as being a "young Miroslav Klose", comparing his stature and strength in the air with that of Germany's all-time record goalscorer. Selke himself, however, cites former Bayern Munich striker Mario Gómez as being his idol.

The fee quoted seems to be around £13-14 million.

Also said to be on Saints radar is Dayot Upamecano a 20 year old central defender who is still at RB Leipzig.

Upamecano who has just turned 21 is French and has played for his country at U21 level, he signed for RB Leipzig in January 2017 from RB Salzburg for 10 million euros and he now has a solid 3 seasons as a first team player behind him.

The fee for this seems to be around the £30 million mark suggesting that Saints are willing to spend to make sure they avoid relegation, however if they do that then they will need to sell.

Whilst they might not need to raise the entire £45 million, they would certainly need to raise at least half of it, not just for the transfer fee but also wages and that could be done by trimming the squad.
