Saints recorded a glorious win at White Hart Lane to jump into sixth place and officially become the second best team in the the second half of the Premier League season.
It was a red hot atmosphere at White Hart Lane as Spurs fans turned up to acclaim their team and found that Saints were not sticking to the script.
In the first 25 minutes Tottenham threatened to blow Saints out of the water with a scintillating display of one touch passing and all out attacking football with Son Heung-min scoring a superb goal that left Fraser Forster having to pay to get back in the ground.
But that was the only goal that Spurs managed in that opening burst and it was a pace that they could not keep up and Saints slowly but surely dug themselves back into the match and Steven Davis brought them level on the half hour.
The Saints supporters were superb, driving their side on and showing Spurs fans who really owns Oh When The Saints Go Marching In, indeed the home fans only had one rendition of their version with Saints fans out singing them and perhaps shaming them into singing a song of their own for a change.
Even after the equaliser though it was always going to be tough and a case of getting behind the ball, digging in and taking our chances whenever they came our way, Spurs had 70% possession and 20 shots exactly double our total, but they only got 6 on target and Fraser Forster made several decent stops to make sure the home side didn't add to their goals total.
Saints only had 2 shots on target, both from Steven Davis and both were goals, but if Davis was the goal scoring hero this was truly game that was won by team work and hard work at that.
At times it seemed that Saints were playing 12 men with the referee determined to give Spurs all the help he could, every split decision went to the home side and Saints couldn't make a tackle without getting penalised.
But Saints dug in deeper with every player working as hard as the next man to make sure we won the game and kept our Europa League hopes alive, this being the case it is hard to name a man of the match, every player ran his socks off and Ronald Koeman made the right substitutions at the right moments to keep the momentum going.
There was a scare in added time but again Fraser Forster made himself big and saved the day.
A great day out for the traveling Saints supporters and a great result which shows that not only have Saints been better than Spurs in the second half of the season, but they can look towards next season with confidence, Ronald Koeman has built a great squad with a great spirit in it, we marched on at White Hart Land and we will march on going forward.
This jumps us to sixth, we now need to look towards Upton Park and Anfield in the next two days, if both teams drop points then sixth place is in our hands on the final day.
