Shane Long Stretchered Off For Republic Of Ireland
Shane Long was stretchered off whilst playing for the Republic Of Ireland in Poland and the club are waiting for news on the extend of the injury.
Shane Long who found himself the new hero of the Southern part of Ireland after scoring the winner against Germany was rewarded with a start for the Republic in their game in Poland.
But it would not be a good ending for either Long or the Republic as Poland came out 2-1 winners on Sunday evening, condemning the Irish to a two legged play off game if they are to reach the finals.
Meanwhile Saints must sweat on Long's fitness as he was stretchered off with an ankle injury 10 minutes into the 2nd half.
Whilst Long is not an automatic starter for Saints this season, he is an important player in the squad providing an alternative to Pelle and weighing in with some vital goals and assists not only in the Premier League, but also the Europa League and Capital One Cup.
It will be a blow for Saints if Long were to be sidelined for an extended period, however they have plenty of options including Juanmi who has found his opportunities limited so far with Long and Rodriguez ahead of him in the pecking order, but the Spaniard has shown enough in his limited game time to suggest that he might just be a player who plays a big role going forward.
