An Evening With David Armstrong

Older Saints supporters will have fond memories of David Armstrong as a player back in the 1980's, younger fans will recall his commentaries on local radio, now is the chance to meet him.

David Armstrong was one of the best players to pull on a Saints shirt back in the 1980's, not only did he play 272 times for the club but he notched a very decent 71 goals at the same time.

He could play in several positions although it was as a midfielder that he was capped twice for England whilst at the club and that was indeed his best position. In two of those seasons he finished with having scored 15 league goals, phenomenal for a midfielder back then and indeed even now, what his worth would be in today's game we can only speculate.

He cost the club a then record £600,000 when he joined Saints from Middlesbrough in 1981 and it was hoped that he would be one of the final pieces in the jigsaw that would turn us into genuine title challengers, that would sadly not be the case, but he stayed at the Dell for six years until leaving for a short spell at Bournemouth.

Now you can spend an evening with him and hear some of his stories from those halcyon days in the early 1980's when Saints were truly considered one of the top teams in the Country.

He will be appearing at AFC Totton's ground on Thursday November 7th starting at 6.30pm for a Q & A session after regaling you with stories from his career as well as signing copies of his newly published biography "The Bald Facts".

Tickets are priced at £10 and are available from AFC Totton.
