Britton Getting Better Says Jackett
Britton Getting Better Says Boss |
Leon Britton is a man on form at this moment in time and his manager is one person who agrees totally with that statement. Britton has made the right wing spot his own since the move from the Vetch Field last year and is now playing football that is getting better all the time according to the man who selects him every week Kenny Jackett told the Evening Post''I have said to him he can go on and be the best player at the club, In the last month or so he has stepped up. I have felt that his performances have gone up a notch. ''He is the one who is pushing on in my mind, he is the one who's improvement has been very good.'' Jackett feels that since switching Britton from centre midfield to the right, the former West Ham youngster is brimming with confidence. ''His self confidence is now coming,'' the Swansea boss said. ''He has the confidence to go past people and produce. ''Before the Port Vale game I asked him about corners because I wanted Robbo (Andy Robinson) in the middle. ''I said to Leon 'do you think that you could take these?' He wasn't so sure yet the first one he took was right on the nail. ''At 24 it's good to see that his confidence is really coming through and he has raised the bar.'' ''When I first came to the club he was a centre midfield player but he now seems to know the right midfield very well,'' Jackett added. ''When a full-back is showing him down the line he has got a nice cut back on the left which means he can go inside or cross with his left foot.'' Raising the bar is not designed to make Bayo headers fit under it What to read next:With Jan Bednarek seemingly set to miss his first Premier League game of the season, Saints are struggling for central defenders to take on the League leaders Liverpool at St Mary's, is it time to bring in a player out of the cold. There has been a lot of words typed on the internet about Russell Martin and his tactics, but is this just the reason as to why we are doing badly in the Premier League, last season there was a clear evidence that his player selection is not what it should be. If the next few weeks were going to be tough with the potential absence of goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, then they are now getting much worse with the news that a central defender has been injured in International duty over the weekend. It was a dream England debut for Southampton's Taylor Harwood-Bellis, in front of his future Father in law ex Manchester United & Republic of Ireland legend Roy Keane, not only scoring but also nearly getting an assist. Brighton away was the first fixture Southampton fans looked for when they came out back in June so there was great disappointment when the game was switched to a Friday night as it means it's virtually impossible to get back on the train. Recent reports have suggested that Southampton have not dispensed with the services of Russell Martin due to the alleged £12 million compensation cost. However it is now suggested that this is not the case and that if they do lose faith they are willing to pay the price. Its dragged on a bit, but Saints have finally sorted out the compensation package with the Swans for Russell Martin's switch from South Wales to the South Coast, although the details of the settlement are rather vague. One of the highlights, if you can say their were any, of the last few months, was the arrival from Arsenal of Aaron Ramsdale, but now comes some terrible news, that he has injured a finger. The last two days have been ones of frustration for fans of Southampton Football Club, after a toothless display at Wolverhampton Wanderers, many were convinced that this would surely be the end of the line for the Saints manager. If ever a game epitomised what has been going wrong this season, it was this one at Molyneaux, whatever way you look at it, it was disappointing, perhaps the most damning statistic was the fact that we did not get one shot on target, at least one that wasn't disallowed. |
