The London Road Area

The London Road/ Oxford Street Area is probably the most cosmopolitan of Southampton's five night time areas.

All types of Southampton's nightlife congregate in the London Road/Oxford Street triangle and co exist without too much hassle, come here if you want a lively night but with less chav overtones.

GIDDY BRIDGE

Starting at the City end of London Road you have the Giddy Bridge, a weatherstones bar ideal for starting the evening with a few cheaply priced drinks, as you go up the street you have Kelly's Bar a cellar nightclub specialising in cheap drinks before 11pm and cheap women after (only joking), on the opposite side of the road just off the main drag you have the Alexandra tucked away and agin a nice place for a drink where you can hear yourself speak.

THE ALEX

You cant miss the Varsity, popular with Students who still want the cheap drinks but dont want the crusty atmosphere of Bevois Valley, a similar venue is just behind the Varsity in Scream another chain pub.

VARSITY

As you proceed up Carlton Place you come to Seymours, a small intimate wine bar type of place for a more mature client, followed b the Cricketers that seems to have found a more pretentious vibe of late, next up is the Pensioners a great place to meet up before heading to some of the more raucous venues , for example Reflex just across the road that specialises in 80's retro and is always rammed.

PENSIONERS

CRICKETERS

On to Bedford Place and the Wine bar and Lizard lounge are popular with the Clubbing set whilst the Bedford maintains its decade old reputation as a decent boozer as does the Red Lion.

THE BEDFORD

Between Bedford Place The Rhino is still going strong and for those that see them selves as more mature thesedays the Ornage Rooms and Mono offer a chance to stand around and pose.

To finish off the evening London Road and Bedford Place are lined with Indian restaurants and kebab shops amongst other food outlets so that no matter how much you drink you will never starve.
