Newcastle v QPR Betting Preview

The lads are back for the final time in 2012 to look ahead to QPR’s trip to Newcastle and a weekend of sporting action elsewhere.

Hillman spotted some generous odds against a Norwich home win v Wigan last week and lapped those up for another win, while Brian’s Villa for the League Cup tip moved another step closer when they pulled the plum Bradford semi-final draw.

Andy Hillman

Once again, a shorter column this week due to time constraints. I’ve got my work Christmas party Friday night, which I will get in from at - conservative estimate - 2am. I’m then up at 5:30am on Saturday, because Clive has me on a 7am train out of Kings Cross for the Newcastle game. You R’s and all that...

NAP of the week: Swansea vs Man Utd - United win @ 5/7

5/7 looks pretty generous on the United win when you consider the form they are in. Swansea are no pushovers, but United should win with something to spare here.

QPR related bet: Newcastle vs QPR - Draw @ 28/11

I stayed away from backing the QPR win against Fulham, and I’m delighted to have lost that bet. Newcastle are eminently beatable at the moment, but back to back wins? Crazy talk.

Longshot: Premier League draws - quad @ 273/1 and trebles @ 90/1

Looking down the list of games there are a lot of short priced home teams that could easily draw this weekend. Liverpool vs Fulham, West Ham vs Everton, West Brom vs Norwich & Chelsea vs Villa in trebles and a quad should keep the weekend’s games interesting.

The Pro

QPR make the long journey north in the hope of achieving a second win on the bounce. It’s hard to assess last week’s game; QPR played very well, although Fulham were dreadful. The midfield partnership of Mbia and Faurlin looked like a raw version of the classic Viera/Petit combination that brought Arsenal so much success back in the day, and with Taarabt having one of those days in front of them it looked very good indeed. This also seems like a good time to be playing Newcastle. With only one win in their last eleven games, and that coming when Wigan were reduced to ten men basically from kick off, Harry will be confident of getting something from the trip. The Toon Army are nervous and this is being reflected in their play, and with Ben Arfa and Cabaye among others still out, there isn't much sunshine on the horizon for the Magpies.

The betting on this game sees Newcastle currently available around 11/10. This price would of been 2/5 a few months ago which shows not only how much respect is given to the Harry influence but also, more telling, how badly Newcastle are playing at the moment. I think QPR have a good chance to put a victory on the board, but couldn't be backing them at 11/4. I think the draw is of interest at 5/2 but considering the nervousness of the Toon defence at present, and the fact that Taarabt will be giving the likes of leaden footed Williamson pre-match nightmares, I'm going to be recommending an interest on the Moroccan to add to his recent goal scoring and net at an anytime goal scorer price of 7/2 with Coral. For those who like a first goal scorer bet, he is available at 10/1 at Corals also.

Winners so far:

Norwich v QPR, 11/10 Under 2.5 goals 24/08/12

West Brom v QPR, more than 2.5 goals, 4/5, 05/10/12

James Morrison to score anytime v QPR, 5/1, 05/10/12

QPR and Everton to draw 13/5, 18/10/12
