Notts County Away - 3rd best home form (Last 6) VS 24th Away form (Last 6) - Wolly Predicts: NOTTS COUNTY WIN Will be a tough task to get anything against an inform team, a U's win would do wonders for the play off push. Other Weekend Fixtures of importance: Crewe vs Cambridge - Inform Crewe (W4 D0 L2) could deal a big blow to Cambridge's play off hopes, another loss would see Cambridge remain on 54, a probable 7 points off the playoffs Grimsby vs Doncaster - Another win for Doncaster would see them rise to 81 points, which means they'd be 17 odd points safe, here's to hoping promotion is secured by the time they travel to the WHCS. Leyton Orient vs Wycombe - If Orient are going to stay in L2 they're going to have to pull their fingers out soon, Wycombe unlikely to pick up enough points to make the play offs (they draw too much) and have tough games in Mansfield, Barnet and Doncaster coming up but can see them getting the three points here. Luton vs Blackpool - Luton are experts at crumbling under pressure and this weekends visit of Blackpool will show whether they've got what it takes to stay in the Play Offs.. Blackpool are the most inform team in L2 currently losing only 1 of their last 10 games... I'd expect a draw from this one.. Either way someone's dropping points which bodes well for the U's. Mansfield VS Exeter - Another big battle for a play off spot, both in similar mediocre form (W2 D2 L2) another game where the U's can (if we win) capitalise on dropped points. Stevenage VS Barnet - A good chance for Stevenage to start to pull away in 4th place and perhaps even push for that 3rd spot, a far different team to that of the one beaten comfortably by the quality U's earlier this season... Stevenage's home form has been incredible of late (W6 D0 L0) so another win looks distinctly possible.. Yeovil VS Carlisle - Yeovil on the rise as unbeaten in 4 (W1 D3) whilst Carlisle look to put the ball in the net (it's been 7 games since their last goal)... Unless they can turn it around quick sharp it looks like Carlisle will drop into mid table mediocrity freeing up space for the hopefully gallivanting U's My L2 Table Prediction for 1st April Games: Doncaster - 81pts Plymouth - 76pts Portsmouth - 71pts -------------------------------------- Stevenage - 65pts Blackpool - 61pts Luton - 61pts Exeter - 60pts --------------------------------------- Carlisle - 59pts Mansfield - 59pts Wycombe - 58pts Colchester - 57pts Downbeat I know but based on our away from recently, Just think a win could catapult us into 7th/8th. |

Portsmouth completely outplayed us on Saturday and were tactically fantastic.. They overloaded the right wing with RB,RM and CM to ensure Dickenson had to focus all his time on his defensive duties thus taking away our biggest threat... I think we could tell a number of our players looked jaded.. For me I'd like to see the following against Mansfield: 3-5-2 ----------------------------Walker---------------------------------- ------------James--------Elokobi---------Briggs---------------- KVY----------------------------------------------------Dickenson --------------------Murray--------Lapslie------------------------ -----------------------------Szmodics------------------------------ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------Pyke-------------Bonne----------------------- KVY for drey who really struggled against Portsmouth... I like Drey and think he's technically a good player... However it's caught my attention that he "turns off" and lets his man run off him, maybe that's because he's not a defender but when we've got James alongside him we need a "proper defender" thus KVY should IMO start. Garvan has looked knackered for weeks but against Portsmouth he couldn't even organise/track like he had been doing, certainly needs time off... I'd replace him with Murray tonight who looked ten times better when dropping deep in the last 10 minutes against pompey.. I'd tell Murray to sit deeper and control the game, let Lapslie do his thing and have Szmodics pushed further forward finding gaps behind the front 2. Pyke and Bonne up top instead of Porter, whom again really struggled against Portsmouth, he looked leggy and I think we are in need of desperate fresh legs before Porter pulls up with something... Pyke looks direct, powerful and quick and Bonne is a natural goalscorer who gets into good positions.. Plus both can actually hold the ball up well anyway. Now, thats my take on things but i'd imagine we will see the following: -------------------------------------Walker-------------------------------------- -------------------James----------Elokobi-----------Briggs------------------ Wright--------------------------------------------------------------Dickenson -----------------------------Lapslie---------Garvan--------------------------- -------------------------------------Murray------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------Pyke----------------Porter--------------------------- Either way, a must win tonight and 3 points will keep us in and around the spots. |
| Forum Reply | Guthrie and Slater out for the season at 15:07 3 Mar 2017
Knew those 2 were coming, Slater groin and Guthrie fracture? An absolute nightmare injury situation with: Brill (ACL) - Season Doyley (Calf) - ?? Prosser (ACL) - Season Eastman (Ankle) - Season Kent (Ankle) - Season Grandison (Hip) - ?? Brindley (??) - ?? Slater (Groin) - Season Loft (Achilles) - ?? O'Sullivan (Knee) - ?? Szmodics (Heel) - Back for Saturday? Guthrie (Ankle/Leg) - Season Johnstone (Knee) - Season Add to this Garvan/Porter who are nursing injuries we may have to start picking out fans to play the rest of the season, I'll bring my boots to Cambridge!! This obviously poses a huge problem for this season and i'd be very impressed if we made the top 7... For me a more peculiar problem is next season... Slater/Guthrie's long term injuries ensures we wont sell them for next season (which is an obvious plus) however they only have 2 year contracts which makes me wonder.. Are we going to get them on new contracts and if not. Are we going to get any money for these players?? That to me would be the true disaster!! Next season could see us with arguably one of the strongest in L2.. With all the injuries I can only see us selling Dickenson with perhaps Garvan, Brindley, Doyley also leaving along with 4/5 youth players (Akinwande, Ocran etc)? This could leave us with a starting 11 of: -----------------Walker--------------------- ----Eastman---Kent---Elokobi---------- KVY---------------------------------Briggs- ------------Slater---Murray--------------- -----------------Szmodics------------------ ---------Porter-----------Guthrie--------- Bench: Brill, Prosser, Kinsella, Loft, Lapslie, Wright, Johnstone |

Operation on his groin, we will be lucky to see him again this season |

Great piece and very insightful. To add to the debate I am hearing more bad news on the injury front, Johnstone is as i understand out for the season along with Kent and Brill. Slater has also been carrying a injury and i'm under the impression we won't see him again this season!! Luckily Murray will come straight back in to add a bit of quality to the midfield. Tonight i expect: Walker Brindley - Wynter - Elokobi - Briggs - Dickenson Garvan - Lapslie - Murray Guthrie - Porter Bench: Barnes, James, Kane Vincent-Young, Edge, Wright, Pyke, ?? |
