A massive upgrade on Southgate but a part of me just doesn’t like the fact that he’s not English. Not being small minded or racist, it’s just how I think international football should be. |

I thought we looked okay at times.
Before the game some people were predicting a heavy defeat and even before the sending off we were slightly better than them. We looked as though we deserved to be in the league and had a game plan. Smallbone, for example, slotted in well when many have doubted him at PL standard. KWP in the first half was superb and I liked Sugarwara, was also good to see the youngsters get some minutes as subs showing there is a pathway to the first team.
We rarely win on the opening day nor at St James Park (I seem to remember losing when they had players sent off before, might have been during lockdown when Bruce was in charge).
As mentioned by many though it is a worry that we lack the extra bit of quality at both ends of the pitch. |

Yes, we'll need to make some more signings but the only other reason I can think of is if some other teams get some big points deductions, otherwise it's the team that finished bottom the year before and 4th in the league below the following year so struggling to be optimistic at this stage. |

Good point - there must be a number of programmes that were printed.
On that note, has the programme shop on Northam Road closed down, saw that it was shut before one of the games but haven’t been that way since. |

For (4) think we didn’t get a penalty because THB fouled him first. I haven’t seen any replays but the players didn’t seem to protest too much.
Overall thought that the referee had a shocker but just because that handball was so blatant it must have been a foul. |

Same, one game this season three lads must have been early twenties spent the whole game betting on their phones on other Premier League games, seemingly no interest in our game.
Don’t know how they managed it though because I don’t seem to get a signal at all in the ground (a good thing because no one can bother me). |

Another way of looking at this is to say that they should never have been allowed to get into a position to be relegated in the first place. Can’t recall many people praising their smart decision making at the end of last season. |

I’d forgotten how bad that decision was to rule out the Shipperley goal, it brought some angry memories back although I’m not so sure we would have held out for the second half. |
