Hughes was a Class A cuunnt. He was rolling around, holding his face after a cross in front of the Rangers fans up there in the cup, January 91, nobody near him. Good game, lost 2-1 I think.
Couldn't resist it, my first season ticket since 84/85...club doing their best to make it affordable. Hope we pack it down there to give away fans abuse like The paddock back then...ringside seats for Millwall as well
I used to work with the bloke who did mc duties before games. Like a lot of MK fans I think, he was an exiled Londoner who needed an excuse to get out of the house on a Saturday. More shocking was the MK fan I worked with who switched allegiance from AFC when he moved up there.
Stevenage v Newcastle 2011. Boro paid them back with interest for the 1998 result. Fantastic quick passing football, played them off the pitch and amazing atmosphere under the lights, especially with the red flare on the east terrace at the start. Bizarrely, the only Newcastle player who had a good game was Joey Barton, scored a really good goal but stevenage scored their third almost straight from the kick off. Only time I saw Barton live before he signed for us.
Great history of the time but a bit snotty about the rare groove scene. Best thing about those times was the mix - house, jazz -dance, rare groove, go-go etc. My introduction was 80s soul, part of the casual culture, but I was too young for the club's. Talking to someone recently, I realised I properly got into Rangers when the Jam split up. They were a religion and I needed to fill that gap. Despite all the Shiite, no regrets and I've passed the curse on to my sons.
Wimbledon '90 was shite, sleet in our faces all game as well. Palace '83 was my first though - 3 nil to us and singing We can see you sneaking out to the palace fans on the terrace at the side.
