| News Comment | Best case, worst case – Preview at 12:30:20
Thanks for your preview. Yes, everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. On top of that noboby was prepared for this after Martí's rescue mission last season...it was going to be onwards and upwards. More terrible stats with those "away fatigued" games. In the oppo interview the Watford fans picked out Chakvetadze as one of their key men, so hopefully we will have someone trying to keep him quiet. Agree with SimplyNico that we all want to see if Celar's performance was a turning point or a flash in the pan. |
| News Comment | Has Cleverley finally cracked the Watford managerial code? – Oppo Profile at 12:09:29
Thanks to Richard and Cam. I see you hold opposite opinions on Moussa Sissoko. It looks like Watford have been careful spending the significant money that came in from player sales, but have still made some good buys. It sounds like we are going to have to keep an eye on Chakvetadze. |
| News Comment | Desperate QPR travel in hope once more - Preview at 15:40:17
Thanks for your preview. Don't mention the stats. Oddly, we are not actually at the bottom of the form table (Oxford and Hull are below us) as despite everything we have managed to grind four draws out of the last six games. Will OG strike again? At least he knows where the goal is. |
| News Comment | Cardiff trying to recover from nightmare start - Oppo Profile at 15:16:06
Thanks to Phil. Despite Cardiff's terrible start to the season it looks like they have recovered as they do at least have some goals in the team. On his day Willock is a great player. The big debate when he was at QPR was about whether he was trying to preserve himself from injury, or whether he was suffering from a much more permanent loss of form. So far it is looking like the latter. |
| News Comment | Taking ownership – Preview at 14:33:53
Thanks for your preview. Yes, I picked up in the oppo interview the similarity in the behaviour of the two clubs. What's even more strange is that Stoke have significant Premiership experience and, like Brentford and Brighton, British owners who own betting businesses. Yes, our stats are terrible and an expression of a deep-seated disease (whether fatal remains to be seen). We are all stymied by the problem that if our saviour Cifuentes can't get the team going, who can? |
| News Comment | So far, so Stoke - Oppo Profile at 14:03:12
Thanks to Potterlytics. This all sounds very familiar...we are trapped in the same never-ending cycle. Whatever the level of changes, at least Stoke have put together some results this season, which is more than I can say for us. |
| News Comment | Where hope went to die – Preview at 14:50:56
Thanks for your preview. That discussion between McIntyre and Gallen was quite worrying as the things they knew about our signings appeared to be common knowledge. Gallen also made the point that scouts need to go to games to see the whole picture, as tv cameras follow the ball. Instead our methodology seems to be madness. Our stats are terrible as usual. Our prospects for this season don't look good if we can't get back some of the senior players to rally the team. |
| News Comment | Second time lucky? – Oppo Profile at 14:19:38
Thanks to Nico and Gruev. That was some serious money brought in through summer sales, but at least it sounds like Leeds have managed to bring in players to cover for the players sold. Although he was never able to up his game in the Premiership Farke has at least shown that there is a role for Dothrakis in football. |
| News Comment | The November surprise – Preview at 13:43:13
Thanks for your preview. Injury crisis? Lack of wins? When in doubt apply nostalgia. As Chris Charles said on Open All R's this week, most of us weren't expecting a relegation battle this season as we assumed that Cifuentes would be able to build on the results at the end of last season. I really hope that Burnley performance wasn't a sign that we have completely forgotten how to score. Anyway, good to know that November is a month for turnarounds. |
| News Comment | Famine to feast at league leading Sunderland – Oppo Profile at 12:01:48
Thanks to What The Falk and A Love Supreme. Sunderland seemed to have landed on their feet with the appointment of Le Bris. It also sounds like a lot of talented young players are coming through at the same time, so Sunderland are really riding high at the moment. |
| News Comment | Cook rolls back the years as QPR stand firm for first clean sheet – Report at 11:43:47
Thanks for your report. Cook was outstanding, and we all know the stats on us not getting anything out of games when Clarke-Salter doesn't play. Whatever misuse Parker is making of Burnley's resource, we ended up defending non-stop as we just could not hold on to the ball. But then as you point out, for all Burnley's possession and attacks, Nardi didn't have to make that many saves either. |
| News Comment | Foregone conclusion? Preview at 14:52:36
Thanks for your preview. I am not sure how you do it all. Once upon a time, not that long ago, there was only the real world of actual attendance. Now there's the online world which is in danger of slowly swamping the real world, particularly at the larger clubs where attendance is becoming Airbnb'd and season tickets holders are less vital. I have never seen 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles'. I will keep an eye out for it. Up to a certain point in my life I never liked to rewatch or reread anything. However, these days I do use Netflix series that I have seen before to help me get to sleep. I think it's the comfort factor. Hard to see us getting anything out of this one or any other game until we have some defensive strength in midfield. |
| News Comment | Parker steadily grinding Burnley back from whence they came - Oppo Profile at 14:04:11
Thanks to Tom. It's discouraging that even when you have the resources, the experience, and a good season where you get promoted from the Championship that you can come back down so quickly and have to do a lot of rebuilding. From what you have described, Burnley are playing as expected, Scott Parker style. At least the results have been good so far. |
| News Comment | Morgan has his moment but home win continues to elude QPR - Report at 13:35:06
Thanks for your report. We looked very naive for the first goal. Even though Dembele's clearance was terrible, in the run up to the goal van Ewijk was completely unmarked and should have scored. We were rope-a-doped by Coventry. They could pack their defence and hit us on the break, especially as our attempts to break down their defence weren't particularly effective. Positives. Nardi kept us in the game. Saito seems able to go past anyone. Morgan scored, even if we got a bit lucky as the keeper misread where the ball was going (I think he thought it was going into the bottom corner). We got a point. |
| News Comment | Now might be a good time – Preview at 18:25:54
Thanks for your preview. It could be burnout, or perhaps PTSD, after several seasons of near death experiences. We are looking lightweight. So far the balance of the team is wrong, the influx of attacking players has not being matched by players who can break up opposition play, or a player who can drive us from the base of midfield. It looks like we are stuck until JCS and Colback return. Having said that, we still need a result from somewhere. |
| News Comment | Performance culture – Preview at 14:50:23
Thanks for your preview. 'Performance'. A word beloved of a particular school of management. As one critic of this mentality put it: 'only seals perform'. Waiting for the 'imminent eruption'. So that's what we are doing. I listened to the LFW podcast this week, and that was an emperor's new clothes moment when you said we were boring (something I didn't want to admit to myself). It's also a paradox, because we have signed a lot of attacking players. Very hard to know when we will get going, but let's hope it's today. |
| News Comment | Winless Pompey seek season kick-start - Oppo Profile at 14:15:14
Thanks to Jonny. A very honest assessment of Portmouth's shortcomings. It's not easy coming up from League One to the Championship, and the last thing you need is injuries to key players. We all lost faith in Dozzell long ago. Let's hope he doesn't deliver one of his rare moments of brilliance. |
| News Comment | Numbers game - Preview at 15:01:13
Thanks for your preview. Not easy to do what Brighton and Brentford have done, particularly when everybody else wants to do it. The danger is that you copy the appearance without copying the essence. I didn't realise our record was so bad against sides promoted from League One. Maybe that points to us wanting to play elegant football and not being able to handle 'up and at 'em' teams. |
