Swansea City v Stoke City : Match day thread
at 21:45 5 Oct 2024

Time for my contribution I guess.

Vip had no decent service, not one decent cross then we bring Cullen and Bianchini on and the latter delivers a few good crosses that Cullen can't get anywhere near. For me that shows the subs were bad, wrong.

Same problems today as before, we were looking good up until the oppo box then we lost all pace, showed little creativity;constantly recycling the ball, passing 20 yards back, work forward then rinse and repeat. Stoke did defend quite well at times tjough. Still we had a few decent chances and should have done better.

Darling and Cabango today showed again why we need (well our owners need) to bite the bullet and give them an acceptable deal. If we lose them both for nothing it would be criminal.

The ref was a proper "homer" today, we haven't seen it often down here and we didn't take advantage and he gave us many chances.

Grimes, he did ok for the most part but still dropped in between the CB's too much and still slowed down play too much as well.

Why Futlon instead of Allen? Is Allen really fit and if yes, why not use our best midfielder? If Allen is that unfit or incapable then get rid. We cannot afford passengers which brings me to Abdullai. He is not a winger and never will be, it's square pegs in round holes and it needs to stop. Abdullai has no pace, he has little ability to beat a man or make a telling pass. If Cooper is limited at least he fizzes, Abdullai simmers at best.

Bird flu
at 21:27 5 Oct 2024

It's not just a cold but these days it's more like the flu than a lethal pandemic, which it turned out it really wasn't.

I was ill last week, probably covid because there's loads of it where I work, it felt like the flu. 5 days and I was fine though. I don't have more serious underlying conditions though and at 57 I'm getting on but not THAT old.

It should be horses for courses not a one size fits all approach that ws such a mess last time.

Well no, when they give grants they should be getting some cast iron guarantees which include that if they don't live up to their promises or the economy shifts and they can't, they have to oay grants back.

The way the system works the tax payer simplynthrows money at billionaire corporations.

Then there's privatisation, I suspect you are right so why do governments not nationalise these things again, run them along private business lines and (in the case of utilities) take the guaranteed profits for the exchequer?

We have simply stood by and accepted the corrupt system that takes our money and gives it to the rich and powerful.

You're right, people will continue to die. Racists will use the boats as a reason to spread hate and the politicians will continue to do nothing.

You have to wonder why?

The Crown Estates

Did the Crown estate buy the foreshore up to 12 nautical miles out? 65% of Welsh forshore is owned by them.

Wales has also been treated worse than scotland by not having the estate devolved as in Scotland. My opinions about the Senedd notwithstanding, why is that fair?

bangor.ac.uk/news/2024-08-12-crown-estate-why-its-time-to-devolve-it-and-put-wales-on-par-with-scotland#:~:text=In%20respect%20of%20Wales%2C%20it,put%20on%20par%20with%20Scotland.

The Crown estates...Duchy of Cornwall, a Royal property since 1337. Crown estate property is valued around 16 billion.

What were those comments though? And is it in any way similar to beating women for not meeting very strict dress codes such as wearing making up, not wearing the Hijab properly, having their hair uncovered?

Would you want your daughter to grow up over here or over there, given the choice (if you had a daughter obviously) would you subject her to them?

What I've noticed is, even when there is investment it comes at a cost. Remember the LG factory in Newport,

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/3049793.stm

30k per job and 7 years later it was shut. How much has the government thrown at the steelworks over the years and all the profit leaves the country, grants don't get paid back, taxes are minimised by any means and then the public purse is left to pick up the pieces.

I have a problem with people who took vaste swathes of land by dint of birth and make fortunes off it at the expense of the vast majority.

The paid by developors thing, where do developers get their money from? It doesn't just appear by magic and they develop things to make a profit so that 360k for the riverbed was factored into the invoice. Who paid the invoice?

Maybe so but I believe that when you're in a hole you need to stop digging. Financially speaking Wales is in a hole yet our politicians don't just keep digging, they went and bought more spades.

Also, just because local authorities waste does it mean we should accept it? NO, we should be railing against all the waste and badly spent money when so many services are being cut.

I almost gave up at the second attempt.

It was good though, when the lady on the phone sorted it in seconds.

I am becoming a luddite, as time passes I find the tech replacing people to be more and more annoying.
We use an Ipad in work, our jobs come through on an app and it's rubbish, it holds us up, it slows us down and some days it doesn't work at all and we use email. Thing is doing it by email has never failed.

...but if he was really that good then why hasn't his career skyrocketed and why hasn't a better club come in for him? The type of club an ambitious 22yr old couldn't turn down.

Maybe try something relevant. Besides the Truss budget being a thing of the past, who is responsible for majority of the budget spend in Wales?

We know Westminster has been rubbish but spouting more whataboutery when we have a new government in Westminster but the same useless rabble in the Senedd, can you not see how daft that is?

Pointless question really because you have never understood.

I completely agree with you. Although I would also say there is no role for an extra 36 politicians in Wales when we already have too many and are apparently short of money.

The Royal family, Royalty as a whole is an absurd idea in the 21st Century, they should be retired, become private citizens and the Crown Estates run with 100% of the profit going to the treasury. Then open the palaces to the public and run them as living museums.

The real difference there is that the Falklanders are massively in favour of staying with the UK. They ghad a vote which was, I believe, 99.8% in favour of remaining British on a 92% turnout.

I entirely understand and appreciate why you run this site but I have already given an opinion about that. The very nature of these places means it can be a very hard job and can cause a lot of angst even without the charity link.

Only an idiot would question your motives and I completely respect what you are doing and I empathise too.

Sometimes, just like in football, it can be a very fine margin between being offside or onside.

It really is a case of total ignorance on my part because I just do not understand our apparent desire to not get into the box, not to shoot often, not even when it's a decent opportunity nor the managers apparent desire to keep using players out of position. All that on top of the modern obsession with possession that has made football so slow and boring.

There's more entertainment watching my sons U16's team.

Ticket website versus office
at 16:35 3 Oct 2024

I tried to buy 2 tickets for Stoke via the website, tried 3 times, third time it took my money but said the transaction had times out and I needed to start again....irritating. I phoned the ticket office and spoke to a very nice lady who had a look, could see the money had been taken and said she'd email the tickets straight out and less than 30 seconds after hanging up, there they were.

Technology can be a pain in the harris but speak to the right person and et voila.

Thank you madam.
