It upset me greatly to read some of the pressures on you, Clive. Particularly at this most dismal time, when the need for kindness as opposed to cruelty is so paramount. I, for one, think your writing is up amongst the very best out there - amusing, intelligent, disconcerting, incisive. I’ve read you for a long time. You’ve become like Brian Granville was to my dad. There’s nothing sycophantic about this. I know nothing about you, other than through your writing or occasional pod casts, but you provide a brilliant prism for my support of QPR who I so love but sometimes despair of, as all true football fans do. I don’t really know why I’m writing this other than to say thank you so much for your writing, sacrifices and selflessness and I am sure many other Rs fans feel the same. What you are doing now, in this wretched COVID era, goes so much more beyond football |
| News Comment | Second half R's storm back with ten men - Report at 08:28:48
Excellent report, for which many thanks. I think you must have been sitting close to us, as the last minute dip on Manning's shot was only evident from directly behind it and the curl on Eze's beautiful strike was so skilful and thrilling. One of the best away games I have ever been to, given how dire we were in the first half and unexpectedly brilliant we were after the sending off. Our support was immense and I loved the way we sent out the 'we've only got ten men chant' in the direction of a thousand backs rushing for the exit! I also feel that poor Pugh is having a tough run and had an absolute stinker here. He seemed so slow and leggy and the penalty challenge was nonsensical. Why do it? Amos definitely took his chance and I expect him to start against Barnsley. I'm beginning to think if we can carry this run on, ride our luck and see Eze/Bright/Chair/Hugill play like this we will have an outside chance of reaching the play-offs |
| News Comment | Kane and Pugh make it a summer dozen - Signings at 10:53:51
It's always reassuring, Clive, when you give the thumbs up to players I know nothing about! Your consistent point over this pre-season is that we mustn't revert to type by calling for the manager's head after the first 6 winless games or when we are 18th in February - and I completely agree. Warburton has to be for the long haul now and the fortunes of Ferdinand, Hoos and Fernandes are completely tied to his. I'm actually quite optimistic. I've liked the manager's sensible comments after the matches so far and it's clear he has a plan for our playing style. Unlike McLaren, if the plan doesn't work immediately, I suspect he's intelligent enough to adapt in a sensible rather than catastrophic way. I also like his obvious recognition that last year's squad was abject, we need cover across the team and a couple of elder statesman are needed to tutor the younger players. Now for the goals... |
