Dirty Old Town - Ammies to come unstuck at the JCS this lunchtime
at 21:47 27 Oct 2024

Next Saturday at Swindon.

I watched an enthralling interview just hours after Ian Holloway had arrived at The County Ground. It really is worth listening to, not sure if l have ever heard anything to compare to it.

Swindon Town is a big club and next Saturday promises to be quite an occasion.

There is a lot on this match.

I am expecting something on a different level from anything we have seen this season from both sides.

Let's hope for a great match!

Just for the record, l have tremendous respect for both management teams and their tactical and motivational skills may well determine who goes through to the second round.

UPDATE

The interview with Ian Holloway l referred to was the one on the Swindon club site - around 20 minutes, but the shorter 4 minute example on Sky Sports is also worth a watch.

So l layed there for a while before l decided to take a walk around my new home.

There were empty beds and a lounge area. l discovered several bathrooms and a few private rooms that appeared to have been mothballed.

Then a surprise!

In an office lit by nothing more than a 40 watt light bulb on dimmers l saw a person. She was dressed as a nurse.

She was looking through some papers. Perhaps they were mine.

Then a crash as the doors suddenly opened down the corridor and a convoy of patients were wheeled in.

I trotted back to my bed and tucked myself in.

It got quite noisy and a selection of hospital staff were arriving.

A West Indian nurse came to my bedside to take my blood pressure. She gave me a selection of tablets which appeared to be different from those l had been given previously.

I finally got to sleep although they would wake me up through the night every few hours to take my blood pressure.

It appeared to be reducing but was still at the levels that l have learned are considered an emergency.

After a week in Colchester General l was discharged.

It's about 21 months on. As with many others l have to take a large and varied selection of tablets twice a day.

Last week l showed the paperwork l was given on release from hospital to a Doctor who lives nearby and is a fellow dog walker.

She said she had never seen blood pressure readings as high as those l was recorded with.

Either way, l was within minutes of death around tea time on Christmas evening 2022 and the staff at Colchester General kept me alive.

Since then quite a few people who live close by and were given the Astra Zeneca COVID jab have died or been seriously ill.

I have no idea if there is a link with the injections and blood clots that it may have caused.

So it's around 1.30am on Boxing Day morning and the Middle Eastern Doctor who had taken me under his wing had my scans on a lightbox.

There were a selection of star bursts scattered across my heart and lung area. They looked quite pretty but they were anything but.

My mind was strangely somewhere else.

I had a leak under the bath which required emptying a saucepan every few days.

I thought, if l don't make it through the bathroom will get flooded and that leads to the water coming down into the kitchen.

They managed to find me a ward around 4am.

As we entered the ward there was someone with their face covered in a corridor. I was put in a bay and there was an elderly gentleman in the next bed in a lot of pain. He was shouting out for the rest of the night and kept buzzing the alarm.

I was never going to get any sleep in there.

They mentioned transferring me to the Cardiac Ward and so l just layed there.

About 6.30am breakfast arrived and around 7.30 l asked if l could use a phone as l don't carry my mobile with me.

All l could tell my oldest daughter was that l was in hospital and could she get into my house and empty the saucepan which l had never mentioned to her or anyone else previously.

My blood pressure was still really high but had dropped slightly.

About 16 hours later, and still with no sleep they said we are moving you to another ward. Within a minute or so l was on the trolley being wheeled along corridors and into a lift.

Eventually l find myself going into a large empty ( of people ) ward. They show me my bed and l climb into it and off they go.

It was then that l thought l might be dead and if this is what it's like - lt's not too bad.

To be continued.

I just read yesterday's match report on the club's Official website.

There are several extraordinary errors contained in the text.

I doubt my postings on here are error free but l don't get paid for this and my assumption is that whoever is writing on the Official site does.

Can someone at the club go back into that and correct it please. 😳😳

I didn't get around to watching the 'Pre Match Show' today until after the game ....the audio is missing on large chunks of it.

Muse - 'Plug in Baby' comes to mind.

This is something that happened to me and l wonder if anyone who had the Astra Zeneca anti COVID jab had experienced anything similar.

I should add that l have no confirmation that the anti COVID jab caused blood clots around my heart and lungs.

It was Christmas Day 2022. I had been short of breath for several weeks but nothing to be too concerned about.

By about 10am on Christmas morning l was on an early walk and suddenly became very short of breath.

I returned home and phoned my oldest daughter that l might not be able to make Christmas lunch. Within half an hour she had turned up with a COVID test which l duly took and as it was negative l decided to carry on with my plans for the day.

As the day progressed my breathing became more difficult and l decided to drive myself to Colchester General around 5.30pm.

I ended up at the top of Mile End unable to think where the hospital was located, and l have visited there many times.

Eventually l somehow managed to pull into the Colchester General car park and slowly make my way into A&E.

In less than a minute l was having my blood pressure taken and seconds later l was on a trolley in A&E Majors and on the plug-in blood pressure machine that the actual Doctor said 'This can't be right, we'll try another machine'. The next machine was giving a similar reading which l learned some three months later was the highest reading some doctors and nurses had ever seen.

At one time l recall five doctors and staff looking over me and fixated on the blood pressure readings.

Throughout the night, which was breaking into Boxing Day morning l was whizzed around on a trolley to all parts of the hospital for tests and scans.

They kept asking me how much pain l was in but there was no pain. Additionally as l was laying down l don't recall a problem with the breathing.

To be continued.

A dramatic change of subject.

During the summer of 1977 l was working on a fashion photoshoot in London and the client put three of us up in The Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane.

We were there for about four nights and usually got back to the hotel around 10pm.

We would order steak sandwiches ( never heard of one since ) and coffee in the downstairs lounge bar area.

On each evening we noticed an elegant lady about late sixties sitting alone at a table, sometimes smoking with a cigarette holder.

We noticed how people would often look in her direction.

She seemed to avoid eye contact. Very private. Quite mysterious.

It was Bette Davis.

She had an apartment at the hotel and spent quite a bit of time there.

It is one of my lifetime's regrets that l didn't go over to her and just say 'thank you'.

I dislike the term superstar.

Davis was far greater.

She's on my TV screen now.

My Maldon & Tiptree mole resurfaced last night in Great Yarmouth to take in the Gorleston v M&T encounter.

Gorleston scored a winner in the 7th minutes of injury time - just seconds from the end to clinch a 2 -1 victory.

Sounds as though our sister club should have won.

The crowd was just 90 in that lovely old ground.

Five fairly rapid second half substitutions by M&T ensured for multiple formations in the frantic closing stages.

A booking for Wordsworth but he did a 90 minute stint.

I am going back a long way in time here.

I'm not sure what triggered these memories yesterday while l was trimming trees.

Just wondered if anyone on here remembers a U's Super Fan who we used to refer to as 'Birmingham Bill'.

He had a decent Brummie accent and travelled all over the country to watch Colchester United.

I can time this as the mid sixties to perhaps a decade later.

He had fair hair, glasses, always neat, slim build and wore fashionable casual clothes.

He was at Elm Park, Reading where the U's enjoyed an away day with a brace from Alan Shires.

Strange how the memories just seem to pop up from nowhere.

His preferred position to watch matches at Layer Road was towards to top of the open / clock end slightly towards what became known as Terrace 4.

Just met up with a loyal fan of Stanway Rovers who is off to Shoeburyness tonight to watch his team at White Ensign.

That's a train journey from Colchester North Station changing at Shenfield and including a three mile walk at the other end that eventually finds the ground share with Great Wakering Rovers.

That is dedication!

If the trains are running on time he will arrive back around half past midnight.

Had a close friend of Paul Di'Anno visit yesterday.

He was very upset.

Paul was a larger than life character and while away from the stage showed considerable kindness and compassion to people.

I have had a quick run through scanning the stats on Colu TV.

'The Midweek Show' appears to be something of a lame duck with very low viewing stats....l think it has been dropped over the last few months.

Likewise 'The Pre-Match Show' doesn't seem to be of interest to many - low stats on that too.

There are around 2,600 videos uploaded on Colu TV over 11 seasons. That is a huge volume and a very time consuming production requirement.

It really is quite incredible to see how many players have been interviewed over the years. It seems that just about everyone who has signed or come in on loan has been featured - some of them l can't even remember.

As it happens, the short videos Sparkfilms TV have put up in the past year or so which include a mini series of 12 featuring out takes from our work at Layer Road in '07 - '08 also has low viewing stats.

It was nice to share the work though and at least YouTube gives it a home.

I should add that we have an experimental 35 minute film that has never been seen that we shot at the final Championship match at Layer Road against Stoke City. I should get around to uploading that some time.

We did the first edit in 2010 and there were a few unintentional errors in there .....trouble was though, they grew on me and l decided to leave them in.

I wasn't sure what people would make of it so kept in a cupboard hidden away. 😔😔😳😳😊😊

A 1 - 1 draw at Chesterfield is commendable.

The corner stats were -

Chesterfield Seventeen
Colchester Nil

I can't recall Colchester getting a draw from those stats in many years.- if ever.

The interviewing technique on Colu TV should be re-evaluated - l doubt it will be.

It's just too 'In - house', predictable and spoon fed.

Censorship comes to mind.

It's almost like the owner is standing around the corner controlling everything.

I think most of us realise there may be some kind of gagging order on players not to overstep the mark. I have often wondered if it is in the small print somewhere on a contract. Maybe it's an accepted unwritten rule.

On a few rare occasions someone might say something interesting. I bet Matt Jay could! Ben Garner too. Joe Dunne could for sure.

I have been fortunate enough to interview former managers and players in private over the years and they are much more interesting people that they appear on the likes of Colu TV.

R.I.P. Paul Di'Anno.

Paul joined Maiden to replace my colleague and friend Dennis Willcock.

Paul was superb on the first two albums ( many of the tracks on which were co - written by Dennis and never credited ).

GREAT POST!!!!

Totally agree.

No wonder the club is £33 million in the red!

Dave Huzzey - he just happens to be the Manager of M&T.

I may get tempted to mention something that happened at Florence Park some time ago!!!!!

😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈😈

And at Waterford!

Interesting topic.

I agree the mode of questioning is far too sugar coated.

Florence Park is a little too cosy an environment to ask the real hardcore questions that are sometimes required.

I like the fact that Danny Cowley referred to the four year horror show that the supporters have had to endure, while some may think it many years more.

I listened briefly to the commentary on Rochdale against Southend match on BBC Essex on Saturday evening, it was excellent, l think the new guy's name was Darren?

BBC Essex is going through some serious cost cutting.

It would appear that MC did xxxx off from M&T by which time the club appeared to be in disarray.

My mole has also moved on from M&T which is something of a loss as l was frequently informed of the farce that the club has become.

What has happened to their website?

What has happened to Jammers TV?

How is the club financed?

Did the club replace the General Manager?

Of course not, it was another sham.
