| News Comment | Southampton V Villarreal The Verdict at 12:41:49
Reasonable yesterday, if not as good as Monaco game. Sadly, I expect the “back “ five will be the same as yesterday! Not the best 5, but Ralph seems to think it is. Firstly, Perraud is by far the best choice at left WB/FB. Not sure what this rubbish about him not being any good as WB is all about. Generally when he plays, he is as far forward as KWP. He can cross with his left foot and will take a shot. Moussa, in contrast, only uses his left foot for standing and tries to over elaborate. I don’t think I need to comment on his defence! Defensive midfield picks itself- Prowsy & Romeu (Lavia is a great prospect but has a way to go - his least good performance so far yesterday). Che has to start up front as does Stewy Armstrong. I would finish off with Aribo. Latter two are our main goal threat. However, I don’t think Ralph will agree! I think he’ll have Adam A in place of Che and may well start Lavia. Now for the CBs- as I have said, I think yesterday’s 3 will start (but on form shouldn’t). They lack the pace (demonstrated yesterday) to deal with Son & Kane. My choice (out of an average selection) would be Salisu, Lyanco & either Stephens or Valery. Bednarek is too slow and Bella-Acotcha just hasn’t shown he is good enough yet. Mara , quite rightly will start on the bench 😇 |
| News Comment | Striker And Central Defender Still On Southampton Radar at 11:40:13
Definitely don’t need another central defender (by the way I’m a bit dubious about Bella-Kotcha after Austrian games)! Spend the money on a proper striker- 10-15 million is not going to get anyone worthwhile. You get what you pay for in a No 9. Delap on loan would be worth a punt - as long as we get someone else. Remember Pelle? If you watch the clips of games with him, you realise what a difference a half-tidy striker makes! Agree about weeding out the deadwood- Djenepo, Walcott. Not sure I would keep Adam Armstrong either. |
| News Comment | Saints At Klagenfurt The Verdict at 11:29:48
My feeling is that it’s another 90 mins of my life I won’t get back. Take homes for me - 1Adam Armstrong should never take another penalty - truly awful effort. 2 Smallbone pick of first half and Lavia looks like a good buy! 3 KWP MUST play at right back with Aribo in front of him - a potentially good combo. 4 Concerns that JWP played zero mins (even though away with England). Need to see him T Ruislip on Saturday to reassure me 5. Not sure why Lis bought- another with zero game time. |
| News Comment | Southampton On Verge Of Signing French Striker at 11:21:20
Another gamble! Highlights on YouTube look interesting (he may well be entertaining- but so is Djenepo!), but he is only 19 so tough ask for him to start in PL and save us. |
| News Comment | Everton About To Bid For Saints Defender at 19:08:16
Keep KWP & let Livramento go! This would be really bad business for Saints. Our best full back last season by far - even playing out of position on left!! |
| News Comment | Football Supporters Association Celebrate Safe Standing at 10:10:18
Sorry to disagree highfield, but anyone who has been to a game at St Mary’s will know, if you go in the Northam End you will stand during the game (and get the atmosphere); if you want to sit you go in the Chapel of Rest end and risk waking up if Saints score! |
| News Comment | Saints Sign Romeo Lavia From Manchester City at 10:05:57
Astute comment wrathoftazz- Ralph hasn’t got a clue about substitutions! My main worry about “developing “ young players (and selling them on at a profit) is that it’s a gamble with PL place. We do risk relegation if we don’t get it right. That would stop the youngsters wanting to come to Southampton to be “developed “. There are times when you need to actually spend more on established players to get results! |
| News Comment | Hasenhuttl Could Be The Key In Armando Broja Transfer Saga at 09:59:53
From Borja’s point of view (wanting game time), Saints are the best bet. West Ham have Antonio who is first choice and Newcastle have several options- so he won’t be number one centre forward at either - whereas Saints don’t have a true number 9 (neither Adams or Armstrong are true sole strikers). Besides, Newcastle is Newcastle and why go there at all unless you have too! |
| News Comment | Southampton Making Bid For Liverpool Defender at 17:45:09
Yes Mr Vader, but Ralph will play them all on the LEFT!! Seriously, he’s great going forward but not so good defensively (a bit like Livramento). We should have got another full back before another centre back (Yan Valery wasn’t going to make it at right back but has looked good in back three)! By the way can I just repeat - WE NEED A PROPER STRIKER to stay up! |
| News Comment | Southampton V Manchester United The Verdict at 21:31:49
Agree with that analysis! Not sure I understand Ralph anymore. Fair comments above about Theo, who really has been very insipid in both games - for me Stewy must start (really hoping it's not a sign of immIntent departure). Ralph's substitutions remind me of Koeman's. Every time he makes them I am totally confused and wonder what the plan is! The only difference is than with Ronald I would realise after a few minutes what he was doing- unfortunately with Ralph after a few minutes I still have no idea (or can see that he is wrong)! |
| News Comment | Southampton V Manchester United The Preview at 13:35:02
Ralph! What’s the definition of insanity? To keep doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome. Why Theo and no Stewy, why Salisu (or Stephens) and no Bednarek? |
| News Comment | Breaking News ! Season Ticket Spotted In Chandlers Ford at 17:46:47
For me it just shows what the Club thinks about its loyal supporters! Another year, another panic. Why leave it until the week prior to the first home game? It’s not as if they are the cheapest season tickets in the PL! Forget the “Welcome Packsâ€, just do the basics better. |
