2015-16 we conceded 99 goals according to the Football Yearbook. With Kevin Keen in charge. That right?

And height of players is important to an extent. I saw one of the current Arsenal team describing their squad as "looking like a basketball team"!

Along with Fev and Mingi, I was disappointed when McGeehan left. I initially wasn't bothered about Hall moving on but now I know better as Flanagan is definitely not an upgrade in my opinion. And I liked Smith, who was in and out of favour with the Cowleys but had a nice touch and a bit more height than some of the current squad.

I very nearly included Woodyard! He's incredibly industrious so yes I think I'd add him to the list of successes. Too many of the other signings (including those loaned) look a bit anonymous to me. I'm glad for Goodman if he's doing well but he made a few terrible errors that really cost us and he never seemed to command his area, but maybe that's improving with experience.

I'm mainly with you on most issues. Too early to even think of changing the management. Agree the squad is mostly worse than second half of last season. Not sure that we miss Chilvers that much and definitely don't miss Goodman! And definitely agree that dropping into the National League would be a catastrophe as it's so tough to get out of these days. Of the new players that the Cowleys presumably had a choice over, I think the best to date have been Macey, Bishop, Payne and Taylor.

There is an interview with Harry and Jamie Redknapp in the paper this weekend in which Jamie calls out the madness of ex-players turned pundits calling for managers to be sacked after just half a dozen games in charge. That is bonkers and unfair, but 33 games is enough to form a judgement on progress and sadly there isn't any real sign of that.

Our League record since the Cowleys took over is P33 W6. D16. L11. So just a point a game, which was just enough to survive last season. The style and standard of play looks increasingly like the National League. Something has got to give soon.

I think he mentioned it in his pre-match interview as well. Not a good look. And of course other sides are completely injury free 😉

I agree there is no clear sense of identity. For me, the biggest worry is the midfield, which has gone missing recently. Their number 6 often had acres of space. And the second big worry is the defence - it's not good enough to defend well for 95% of the game and then give away soft goals. And yes it's true that today's winner was yet another deflection, but that happens when we get into a mess and are having to make last ditch tackles - that's when deflections occur!

Terrific assist from Thorn, and we've had one or two other promising moments, but realistically we are under the cosh and need to keep the ball more...

DC must see something in Hunt that's invisible to the rest of humanity. Or is it because there's no competition in that position?

Pleased to see Goodliffe back in the team. Looks like he will be one of our main goal threats!

The BBC Radio Essex commentary is odd too. I can understand why a supposedly independent broadcaster might want to use an ex-player to provide some "expert" input, but not when the former player is still employed by the Club! And I think the main commentator has a background in rugby rather than football. I know there are some who like the radio coverage of Col U's matches but I find it almost unbearable.

I've just had a quick look at the interview with Payne prior to tonight's game. The usual guy is back and the first "question" is "how important is a positive reaction tonight?" Hardly likely to provoke an interesting reply. It's all way too cosy. Predictably Payne says "Yeah, 100%"

Agree about Tovide's antics. But he did get rough treatment at times yesterday. The amount of shirt pulling that went unpunished was a joke. Mainly by Cheltenham. And the ref had absolutely no interest in throw ins being taken from where the ball went out - Cheltenham stole 20-30 metres almost every time. Having said that, we didn't lose because of the ref, but due to diabolically bad defending... again

I expect an ultra-defensive set-up on Tuesday - perhaps the 5-3-2 that was used at Port Vale.

After Tovide went off, our attacking threat was almost gone. So we probably needed to rely on set pieces. And who has been one of our best from set pieces? Goodliffe, who of course stayed on the bench...

I don't get Hunt over Egbo. If he was a better defender you could make a case but he isn't, and Egbo poses a much bigger attacking threat. Odd...

I've become converted to Taylor though - an excellent combination with Tovide again and a cool finish. I thought he put in a real shift today, although I'm sure he will be gutted at missing the chance near the end.

What's happening to the midfield??
