| News Comment | Saints Squad In Better Shape Than This Time Last Year at 17:18:32
The thing with broja was that he maybe only scored 6 goals but there were goals that got points in tight games if I remember rightly. I feel pretty optimistic about the signings though, at least there is a clear strategy of trying to buy up the best kids. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Wolverhampton Wanderers The Verdict at 12:47:05
Saints would have won that with ings in the team. He is going to be near impossible to replace. Armstrong is the other big miss as he is the only really talented ball player in the squad. Can see saints struggling to get 40 goals this term but I still back Ralph, doubt anyone else could do a better job with the financial constraints. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Manchester City The Verdict at 20:20:00
Is everyone absolutely certain on the penalty incident? I actually think he got it right. Whether or not it was clear and obvious to overturn is another matter. |
| News Comment | In Ralph We Should Trust at 13:31:42
I’m in. I love the guy. Yeah fair enough there has been a lot of disappointment recently and maybe sometimes the subs or not tweaking tactics an be questioned but I think we probably would have been relegated without him. He has had a transfer budget of pennies and anyone thinking saints is a dream job for a que of top managers is deluded. Good luck to everyone concerned at the weekend and hopefully we will be able to look forward to a cup final. |
| News Comment | Why Southampton's Trip To The Etihad Shows The Premier League Is Dying at 14:37:26
Whilst I agree it would be better in many ways if the richest clubs left the problem is they won’t. They might leave the league cup running for the rest but what the most likely outcome is is that the premier league will be reduced to 16 teams to allow for a midweek fixture against European opposition. This will lead to even more disparity and less opportunity to even become cannon fodder. I have really begun to hate the premier league and don’t think I have actually sat down to watch a game this side of Christmas that saints weren’t playing. I don’t agree with your analysis of the last saints city game though. I thought that was an excellent performance that was a bit unlucky not to get a draw at least. We looked like our first 11 was really solid and the lads kept possession and knocked it about nicely. |
| News Comment | Southampton Injury Crisis Worsens With Romeu Out For The Season at 14:29:14
Janckewitz in alongside JWP but move Armstrong into a number 10 role to provide a bit more protection. 4411 with ings on his own. Ramsey or stephens in at right back. The formation the other day didn’t work and only did against Chelsea as it mirrored what they were doing. |
| News Comment | In Ralph We Trust ! at 12:41:58
Well I for one love the bloke. The football is great to watch when it is going well and his passion and personality shine through. Two more wins and a couple of draws will see us safe but even if we got relegated I would not want him gone. When Romeu had to come off the other day there was no one on the bench to replace him and that was already with the balance of the team being completely off by having no right back. With anyone else I believe we would have a lot fewer points than we do now. Saints have also been totally killed by VAR and refereeing decisions during that period. |
| News Comment | Despite Fan's Uproar Southampton's January Transfer Window Is Reasonable at 12:04:16
I think that the club has taken a pragmatic view here. Although some people won't be happy with this the reality is we only need 11 more points this season to guarantee staying up. The possible great season has already fizzled out due to injuries and a shallow squad. Vokins and Valery going out on loan makes sense. They clearly were not quite up to the task against Arsenal although it was tough to replace both full backs at the same time. Both need to play to improve and at the moment that is not at St Marys. It sounds like the club thought they had Maitland Niles in the bag who could play either full back or centre mid which was behind those decisions. Shane Long going out also makes sense. I doubt the club would have given him a new two year deal if they knew they were going to go a whole season without fans (obviously barring the exception for a couple of games.) Added to that, Big Dan up front has been preferred as has Nathan Tella. The rest of the season, with the cup as the exception, is going to be about blooding those kids who are knocking at the door. Find out how good they are are and give them a chance. It really is a unique season that with half the season gone we are in a position to do so. You never know, we might end up with 6 or 7 lads in the first team who have come through the academy next year. Football has changed with the rest of the world over the past 11 months and for a club reportedly losing over 3mill a month that is a promising blueprint. |
| News Comment | Southampton Change Kit Suppliers For 2021/22 Season at 13:04:47
Personally I think that is great news. I love Hummel gear in general and they are traditionalists as a rule. Those white and blue kits they did back in the day were awesome. Obviously we will have to wait for the shirts to see if they actually are any good but I haven't bought a shirt in well over a decade now, might be tempted if they can do a job. Would people be keen if they simply redid the one at the top of the page? |
| News Comment | FA Cup Postponement Could Be A Blessing In Disguise For Southampton at 16:38:43
People talking about money, what money? The money only comes from attendance and tv. If anything playing the game would be more expensive for Shrewsbury than not playing it. A bye would be a great result at this stage of the season. Nearly a two week break? Result. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Liverpool The Verdict at 13:25:09
The lads played like lions. Awesome. Great to see so many young lads knocking on the door too and the manager? Wow. Magical times for the Saints. |
| News Comment | Saints V West Ham United The Verdict at 16:42:14
Thought the lads have looked knackered for the past couple of games against teams that were fundamentally happy to play for a draw. That pattern has been the case for lots of teams. Hopefully Ralph can rotate the team against Shrewsbury to give a lot of the regulars a break and come back strong for the second half of the season. |
| News Comment | Saints Set To Tweak Transfer Strategy ! at 09:53:56
Hopefully they will use the loan market for an experienced central midfielder. It is quite likely that at some point both JWP and Romeu will be out at the same time due to suspension and injury. Have we even got ten premier league starts beyond that? Probably Calum slattery is our next most experienced midfielder. I’ve not posted on here in a while but got to say what an amazing year from a football perspective, what a job Ralph has done. |
| News Comment | James Ward Prowse A Rare Success In Lucky England Win at 14:20:48
Some strange observations about ‘playing the youngsters’. Apart from Foden who do you mean? I mean £100 million rated sancho played (12th cap) because rashford was injured and Declan Rice played his 8th game and he would probably be picked if everyone was fit. |
