I seriously, seriously hope you are right. We so need Celar to come good. I just can't see what you have seen to give you that hope (apart from YouTube videos). |
| Forum Reply | Hull Reflection at 10:07 2 Oct 2024
Oh come on mate, you cannot seriously have watched Celar and think that he "shows a lot more awareness than Dykes". How? When? Of course Dykes wasn't brilliant but he was a half-decent Championship striker. Now we have Frey, who apart from one brilliant performance against Luton has hardly torn it up and Celar, who despite us all desperately wanting to come good has so far shown the square root of sod all. Selling Dykes for £1m in normal circumstances, decent business. My point is it has left us totally bereft up front. |

Well I definitely agree to disagree. He's the captain so of course he should be pointing it out after the event. I will bow to your analysis of Luton, but overall Cook I reckon is the very least of our problems. |
| Forum Reply | Hull Reflection at 08:37 2 Oct 2024
Couldn't disagree more. I have no idea what you mean that Cook plays for himself. He's the man, time and time again, who saves us or defends properly. He's the one in the right place. Take Cook out of this defence, total disaster in my book. |

It was the first time for ages and ages that I felt a bit of antagonism towards the team and possibly manager today, which considering the nonsense dished up at LR for years is quite something. It all feels a bit wrong when we surely have a good manager and the team, individually, seems better than last year. Makes me remember that the fans do play their part. Although saying that usually winds me up when we have to put up with midfielders not bothering to defend or deciding to try and beat a man on the edge of their own box, facing their own goal, with six opposition players bearing down on him. Hardly our fault for not singing louder. But hey, maybe we could use Celar as a trigger. Turn him into a cult hero. "He's one of our own" - because (sadly) so far he looks like one of us out on the pitch. A huge flag singing his praises, some kind of chant, huge roars whenever he comes on the pitch. Celebrations when he does a lay off or heads towards goal, even if yards wide. A gently tongue in cheek effort that is actually not designed to take the proverbial but get behind the lad and see if he can offer us anything. Because until the next window, we need him, and badly. Somehow, he needs to get up and running. We all know he is probably one more appearance like that from really becoming the Boo Boys' favourite target and that never ends well. There were, at least, a couple of lay offs and headers won yesterday. That opportunity he bungled though, not so good. [Post edited 2 Oct 7:49]

Nice to see a bit of calm reflection. It was a strange one first 20 or so of both halves we actually looked good. For the rest of it, everyone's fear that the midfield was far too lightweight were realised. Cut open whenever Hull had the ball and if it wasn't for Cook we would have shipped six. Saito was the big improver and I thought Madsen played better today. Lucas is so off form it is unreal but what he was doing for their goal was criminal. Celar actually won a couple of balls but then looked about as sharp in the box as I would. The worries deepen. You've got to hope that JCS and Colback come back and Dunne goes to RB and we actually settle in to the season and tighten up again. Finally, and I thought it at the time, but selling Dykes when all we have is Frey and Celar....bonkers. [Post edited 1 Oct 22:36]

Possibly your flabber could be gasted, but I think you only need to referee Smyth for about 10 minutes and you would be on to him. He's not even subtle. |
| Forum Reply | Smyth's goal at 12:37 30 Sep 2024
This. It's a bit of a cheek for us to moan about Smyth not getting a decision going his way when he appears totally obsessed with diving to win free kicks. He looks a marked man to me in referees' circles. He rarely gets a decision because of it. Stay on your feet, Paul. Mind you, with his end product, maybe I get his point. [Post edited 30 Sep 12:38]

It's so early and as others have said, including Marti, these guys need time. For me: Nardi PROS / POTENTIAL his shot stopping has become really good. Wonderful multiple save yesterday. excellent with his feet seems confident WORRIES / THINGS TO IMPROVE couple of times now he has pushed balls into a danger area not really seen him dominate / come for and catch a cross yet RATING SO FAR: 7/10 He's 30 so may not iron out the faults but I suspect Joe Walsh is an absolute gem so not really worried. SAITO PROS / POTENTIAL flashes of being a brilliant, exciting terrier winger WORRIES / THINGS TO IMPROVE these flashes are rare. undeniably has a physical disadvantage. Will surely learn and get stronger though. RATING SO FAR: 5/10 The flashes of excitement prove there is something there. Pretty sure he will end up far better bet than Smyth. DEMBELE PROS / POTENTIAL great skill, had some really lovely moments WORRIES / THINGS TO IMPROVE appears to be easy enough to lock out of games like yesterday's first half RATING SO FAR: 7/10 Going to get better and better MADSEN PROS / POTENTIAL has a nice touch scored a goal WORRIES / THINGS TO IMPROVE seems a little weak and a little too like Andersen. See no reason why he won't develop into it either. Ability clearly there. RATING SO FAR: 5/10 Tricky to say what will happen here. CELAR PROS / POTENTIAL I am desperate for him to succeed, but there is little to put in here. His penalty in the shoot out? Couple of nice lay offs on the very odd occasion he has had the ball. WORRIES / THINGS TO IMPROVE Needs to get involved, if nothing else. Get the crowd going, shut someone down, anything really. RATING SO FAR: 3/10 So disappointing, I still hope he can do the LFW glossary "one off his arse and away we go". Frey's turnaround should be his inspiration. VARANE PROS / POTENTIAL He has had some pretty good moments. I thought he was doing fine yesterday until the brain exploded. WORRIES / THINGS TO IMPROVE Has had some really poor moments, too keen to pass back when receiving it, too many lapses in concentration. RATING SO FAR: 5/10 I have no real idea why but I think he will come good. SANTOS Not seen enough of him really. Should have been sent off yesterday. Like others, good moments and bad ones.... 5/10 The point is, apart from poor old Celar, all the signings have had their good moments. Having moments at an early stage surely means there is hope? As for those having a go at MC - words fail me. He's an excellent manager and one who has shown he can learn and improve too. Get behind him. |

Spot on. I remember why to avoid the match thread. One rubbish away day, not helped by a stupid red, and the club, manager, players should all be burned to the ground. Bizarre. Replying to rbee's point, sorry. [Post edited 28 Sep 14:23]

Blimey mate, if you think it is going to get ugly against MC, you are so far wide of the mark. He's got enough credit in the bank to last quite a long time, surely? I just can't get over how weak physically our signings are, I think it is a real issue. BUT - add Chair and Colback and JCS and we will be OK. |

Thought it was silly, but still a little harsh, although that Blackburn player's head in hands reaction was always going to persuade the ref. |
| Forum Thread | Underwhelming loans out at 12:58 27 Sep 2024
Got me thinking, can anyone remember when we loaned a player out, they had an underwhelming spell, but eventually turned out to be good player for us? I can't think of one off hand, but there must be surely. We all know about the success of Eze, Dieng, Chair, Les, but has anyone ever gone out on loan, ripped up zero trees, returned and done well? I am sure there must be some. Similarly, I can only really think of Jack Clarke as being a loanee to us who didn't do much but then went on to be a success? |

I'm still haunted by the Phantom Playing Card Sender in the days when the programme was worth reading. I may be incorrect, but didn't that turn out to be our favourite "not missed a home game in 50 years" man? Memory may have gone here. |
| Forum Reply | Pep on the EFL Cup at 09:29 25 Sep 2024
Will he play the second team when the minute they get a week off they jet off to America or Asia to play a friendly? It's amazing how there aren't too many games then. To be fair to Pep his record in the competition is of playing pretty strong sides, but when you have a squad of 100 I guess that is OK. |

I get your point about "mini cup run", but my lord how far have we fallen for that to even make any sense! |
| Forum Reply | West London Sport at 08:19 23 Sep 2024
Seconded - he's been brilliant and will be much missed. I presume as he is a journalist if it was some scandalous reason that they have stopped he would actually reveal it? |

Dave Mc on Twitter (X) saying that they are indeed no longer covering QPR, but with no reason as to why. Lost their inside info? Not enough interest? (not what he said previously) Something to do with Nourry? Just personal reasons? I don't know, but it is a sad loss for QPR coverage and proper inside info (when it was at its peak). |
