Although isn't it true that they got Nathan Jones out quicker than the Board would have done. Based on the Martin experience, Jones had another 7 games in him at least! |

Please read what I said. I am aware of the differences. "...you are getting too close to talking about Jews for my liking." 'too close'. You could research the history of how the use of 'zionist' as a pejorative term has been used by the far right as shorthand for 'Jewish'. Just like how David Icke talks about lizards. (Is he still doing that, Jelly?) What is clear is that this is a minefield. Hence my preference for not using the word 'zionist' when we are really talking about Israel. This Israeli government are behaving abominably. As far as I am concerned they are up there will some of the worst states ever seen in terms of what they are doing and their disregard for Palestinian life. |

You're talking about Isreal - the creation and expansion of. When anyone still talks about Zionism - the aims of which were effectively achieved with the creation of Israel - you are getting too close to talking about Jews for my liking. |

I agree. What this Israeli government has done to the people of Gaza is unbelievable. And I know we are not allowed to make comparisons but their contempt for Palestinian rights and lives is on a par for me with the contempt shown by other regimes historically. But I do my best not to confuse this Israili government with all Israeli governments, with Jews, and also with 'zionism'. |

Why call that a 'Zionist' war. Why not an Israeli war? |

There's another point here. It isn't just about the supporters. It's about the relationship between the supporters and what's going on on the pitch. It makes no sense to expect the same level of enouragement from the fans in the ground when the team is 5-0 down, as when the score is 1-1 and the team has the opposition pinned in their own box, pressing for a winner. Anyone who screams, sings and shouts with the same level of enthusiasm regardless of what's going on on the pitch would rightly be considered a little deranged. The fans are there and willing to perform - they showed that against West Brom in the play-offs. The atmosphere in the first half against West Ham was also a lot noisier. But there is a quid pro quo. The team need to provide something (anything) to shout about. And for much of this season they haven't. |

This season makes you realise just how entertaining a proper relegation battle is. Watching your team barely able to score a goal, let alone win or avoid relegation is a very different sort of horrible. |

What's a 'Zionist war' ? |

Its extraordinary that you can turn a tale of complete incompetence on the part of a football club into a frothy mouth rant about the fickleness of football fans. Russell Martin took the team on a very good Championship league run and an excellent play-off campaign. Apart from that, the story of SFC since SR took over has been catastrophic failure. |

I'm just sick of the footballing incompetence/arrogance at the top. Dithering over Ralph, appointing the fool Jones, sticking with Selles, appointing Martin with his weird style, dithering over Martin... ...and, I think, now appointing another guy with no PL experience. The player recruitment has been little better. This is A LOT of mistakes in a short space of time. |

Don't be fooled by Musk, Jelly. He's being far too transparent about what he's up to. Surprised you didn't smell a rat. The real power is hidden and unknowable, the real moves disguised. Conspiracy theories are no fun if you can follow the whole thing on chess.com. |

Seems fair. Think i'd have Charlie Taylor and Archer in the OK/not seen enough category. Archer has shown more good moments than most. And, this is controversial, I'm really not sure how good Fernades is. But no less than OK. Sugawara's bubble has properly burst. |
| Forum Reply | Harwood Bellis not good enough to play ctr back in Premier lge at 17:42 5 Jan 2025
It was always going to be an open question as to whether these two could step up and I think that a lot of people got carried away with thinking that it was vital that we signed them up for this year. With Downes, I was always concerned that West Ham had let him go and I did wonder whether they knew something about his PL abilities. Likewise with Bellis. We had nothing to go on to judge whether he could step up. FWIW I think that both of them are good enough to play at PL level but I agree that they need to work alongside better players, and they aren't good enough to carry a team at this level. The more frustrating one is Armstrong. We knew from the last time around that his Championship form doesn't translate to PL level and yet we didn't learn from that. The biggest disappointment, however, has been Sugawara. After encouraging signs in the first few games this season, he has turned out to be a complete liability. The penalty he gave away for Liverpool's winner was criminal, as was his header for Brentford's 5th and his complete inability to cover the right side of defence for their 2nd and 4th goals. |
| Forum Reply | Russell Martin must feel as though he’s won the Euro Lottery at 16:29 5 Jan 2025
We should have beaten West Ham and we were in front against Palace. (Even yesterday we were in the game until the two rounds of subs. Particularly, Sugawara coming on seems to have opened up our right side like a tin of beans.) It is far from fanciful to think that we could have won two of the last three games. In which case we'd now have 12 points. Add the two points dropped against Ipswich at home and we'd be on 14 - the same as Leicester and two points from safety. The squad is not strong but we didn't need to be doing quite so disastrously. Martin and now Juric are responsible for quite how poor we have been. It would be interesting to know whether Cooper was ever in the mix. Can't really see why he would have turned us down. |
