That appears to be exactly what they're doing and as an ABU of fifty years and more I'm not happy about it. I fear Amorim will be very successful at manu. |

As an aside I note Don Cowie, Ross County Manager, full of praise for Noah Chilvers saying he was the inspiration in their comeback win against Killie yesterday. As for the record since the Cowleys arrived, it is abysmal. If it was any other management team I'd be calling for their heads. But then I'd be banging the drum for the Cowleys to replace them! We can only hope things just click soon. All managers/head-coaches have a shelf life. I'd be more than sad if the brothers have reached the end of theirs. Danny and Nicky worked very hard to make their way into the full-time professional game. They'll be giving everything to turn around this season and ensure their tenure at Colchester United doesn't end in failure. Up The U's! |

I don't like these 12.30 kick-offs. It's bad enough you losing without me forcing myself to watch. That was so poor though slightly better once the substitutions were made. Lyle Taylor stands out as one player with quality for me but he's thirty-five in March. Let's hope for better in the cup next weekend against Ian Holloway's Swindon. But of course it's points that really matter. |

Will Grigg! Banging them in for Chesterfield but an absolute waste of a seven-figure sum for us. Probably Stewart Donald's biggest clanger taking peanuts for Josh Maja instead of letting him see his contract out and then paying several times the Maja fee for a man who appeared to regret joining us from the moment he arrived. He'll probably score the only goal of the match tonight. |

I thought Colchester played really well until they scored the opener. I was still very hopeful of at least a draw until the second. The defender who allowed their man to cut inside with such ease deserved a severe telling-off in the dressing room. One side issue; I can't find Danny's normal post-match interview. |

The strong rumour today is that Carlisle want Mike Williamson the MK Dons head coach. It's a little surprising as he's apparently very close to the sack at MK; or at least would be if most of their supporters had their way. |

In 1912-13 Sunderland drew two and lost five of their first seven league games leaving them on two points. It was a 38 match season and two points for a win of course. Sunderland won the league by a four point margin ahead of Aston Villa. So with 120 points still to play for it is, as you say, very early days. |

Your wish came partly true; Taylor and Tovide both scored. But what a disappointing result. I feared Morecambe would break their duck but to score three and two of them with ten men was a shocker. |

Simpson managed 126 matches in his second spell as Carlisle United Manager. If Danny Cowley has a win rate of 20% at Colchester United after half as many I'll find it impossible to defend him. I was surprised Simpson led Carlisle to promotion in 2023 but last season was abysmal. He did a superb job with his home town club when he first managed them but that's nearly twenty years ago. Every job since until his first eighteen months back at Carlisle has ended in failure. I cannot deny that I have managers/coaches that I favour and those I don't rate highly. I would give the Cowley brothers a much longer time than a Paul Simpson. But all managers, excepting Sir Alex Ferguson, have a shelf life. I hope Danny and Nicky are nowhere near the end of theirs. They must deliver this season though; a top-half finish is the minimum and I expected a play-off place. They failed to achieve their remit at Pompey and if the same happens in Essex I might have to accept that certain something has left them. I don't think so though and I'll be disappointed if they aren't able to have a Colchester United team winning more than they lose very soon. |

It is only the timing that deserves criticism. As you write the day after the window closes is very poor. In truth Simpson should have gone at the end of last season. Reading their message-board the supporters are saddened that it's ended like this for a man they have affection and respect for; but also all seem agreed he had to go. There are some interesting suggestions and some highly improbable names are being mentioned. I'd have thought Pete Wild would be a good appointment but he doesn't seem popular, possibly because of his Barrow connection. Rob Elliot, who is doing a fine job with The 'Heed, has been mooted. I can remember their season in the top-flight and with the recent investment they're aiming for The Championship within five years. Carlisle has a large catchment area but not a lot of people living there. |

I wonder how many matches Mike Williamson has left. The debacle in last season's play-off semi-final has been followed by a shocking start to this season. Add to that new Kuwaiti owners and I fear his time will run out unless he can turn things around in the next couple of matches. Excellent result for The U's today; well done! |
