Time to play our own 23:00 - Mar 1 with 13143 views | Ned_Kennedys | After the last couple of results we are clearly destined for the lowest of mid tables so what is the point of playing Edwards and Min-hyeok as they will never sign for us. Drop them and get Morrison and Smyth back in the starting line up as they are ours. I’m assuming Saito will be signed so he should be starting.
Time to play our own on 18:10 - Mar 6 with 1013 views | daveB | It's somewhat ironic really that people are asking to not play loan players as that is developing players for someones elses gain and instead play our players so they can develop and be sold on for someone else's gain I do get the difference is the money you can get but it would be quite nice to see us worry about winning on Saturday rather than worrying about next season [Post edited 6 Mar 18:11]

Also ironic that it is okay for us to loan out our players to improve them for ourselves (potentially Charlie Kelman for eg), but not to take in loan players to do the same thing. Loan players are part and parcel of the modern game and as I said previously, all players are playing for the pay-cheque not the badge, so it really doesn't matter how long they are here for.

Play our own !! The thing is, we have currently three players in our entire squad that have been here longer than a couple of years around the first team. Chair, Dunne and Field. Smyth has come back after time away. So hardly any of our own. It's the way of modern football. Strangely we could end up in couple of years time, having our two longest servants being Madsen and Richards,. Every player moves for the buck and even if they don't wish to, their agent will force them into it. As others have said loans are part of the game both ins and outs. Anyhow sure the point is understood...

I think there is more to it than that. I am with you as a win-at-all-costs kinda guy, but I still feel long-term we have an issue where we have this cycle of starting the season badly, get some loans in, improve, do better, lose the loans, start badly..... How do we break the cycle? Better loans? We only need a few more points to stay up, then it really is all about next season for me. Many people don't care about the FA Cup - well I couldn't care about our league position if it is between 7th and one place above relegation. So let's see some planning for next season now so that we get a decent start. Then maybe our January loans can be for a promotion push instead. I don't see how playing Edwards and Yang helps us in that regard. [Post edited 7 Mar 7:27]

If we are talking about the morality of the loan system I agree, but in a moral world teams wouldn’t be able to warehouse players anyway and the likes of Edwards and Yun would be playing full time for a team in the Champ or lower Prem on a permanent basis. [Post edited 7 Mar 7:38]

It'd be interesting to see the frequency of player loans in relation to the disbanding of the football combination

Anecdotally feels like complex loans have only really been around since late 90s. I remember Beckham going to PNE in mid nineties was huge at the time. Now a player often has half a dozen teams under their belt before making their debut.

I can think of three important debut loans for QPR players that predate that (but can't think of others): Alan McDonald 1983 (9 games for Charlton) Les Ferdinand 1988 (month at Brentford, season at Besiktas) Danny Dichio 1994 (Two months at Barnet) | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Aren't we playing those players for someone else to benefit from next season? Where do you draw the line on that basis?
