Azeem Abdulai on 11:09 - Jan 20 with 1279 views | jack247 | This is another example of why PSR needs to be reviewed urgently. He hasn’t shown a lot, certainly not enough to be tried in central midfield in my opinion. But he’s on his first senior contract, can’t be a huge earner and did come with a reputation from the under 21s. Without PSR, this is a season long loan to a club like Orient all day long. See if he can do it in central midfield with regular game time. Bring him back here the following season if he does well. But we can’t do that, we need him gone just to be able to bring players in this window. Not because we can’t afford to, but because we’ve got a box to tick. It’s a shambles.

Azeem Abdulai on 09:14 - Jan 20 by RichardO | The thing is that the very position Abdulai is cited as being his best is one of the positions we are struggling in for personal, Fulton and Allen are our main men if we are going to play a more defensive minded midfield, the only meaningful change in that midfield area has been Cullen playing a more attacking role, even Cooper only add a certain out to the team, once the pressure is applied by teams we buckle and that weakness is at the heart of our team which is where we need better players to support Franco. It was nice seeing Bianchini and Franco playing off each other when Bianchini came on the game was lost by then so the shackles came off so much better movement, you could say the same about Pearl-Harris when he came on against Luton it was a game that needed to be won so we played without that fear of passing forward. All for having a solid defensive setup but the areas of the park that we are getting players around each other and playing off each other should be further up the park, we try it down the wings, sometimes it works like against QPR ( in the first half). The point of attack needs to change from the wings to through the middle which cannot be done if the movement of the midfield is not good enough, the marking is appalling and the movement nonexistent, Allen improves that in the team but he tires quickly so is not the long term answer we know there is a problem there it is why we bought Franco and Downes but making only the one acquisition at a time has not worked. Really think not using Abdulai in the middle has been a big mistake. |
Luke Cundle did this well for us. Nothing spectacular or eye catching, but short, simple passes that moved us up the field centrally and he’d then find space and ask for the ball in a more advanced position. Not saying he is the player we need, but we need someone who does that.

Azeem Abdulai on 07:31 - Jan 20 by Dr_Winston | I don't see that the skillset required for a winger in any way resembles the skill set possessed by a central midfielder. The kid has been set up to fail by Williams and is taking the blame for it himself. I hope he's genuinely as bad as people seem to have convinced themselves, because at the minute I keep thinking about another young player who got personally criticised for a manager's decisions to play him out of position, usually as a late sub, usually when we were chasing games and is now being targeted for multi-million pound moves elsewhere. |
I was going to answer this but Another John has done so better than I could a few posts above this. He doesn’t have the basics to perform at this level in any position. He may of course improve at Orient but he was never going to do that here imo.

Azeem Abdulai on 02:08 - Jan 20 by RhonddaSwans | Joseph hasn’t cut his teeth in the championship yet Gyorkeres was never our player Al Hamadi should have left on loan like I suspect with abi it will be the same thing. Whittiker was shoved out and stands out as the worst decision we made. As for obafemi he has never really shown anything after the swans. So out of your list I only see Morgan and abi as the mistakes. Victor was never our player end of and nowhere near the level of Andre Ayew at the time was he. These young players are hit and miss hindsight is an awesome thing. Look back through your posts res when Gyorkeres was here none of us thought this guy is going to be one of the hottest properties in Europe did we? Look at other loan players that have come and gone Mark Gehi, Conner Gallagher, Brewster . Why do you always mention Victor like he was our player mate? But on the other two you do have a point . |
There are loans and loans. Swansea who have not produced a quality no 9 for thirty years " had a look at Gyorkeres" with a view to buy. The deal nay have been a loan to buy. Coventry took over this deal and bought him for measly £1.5m. Brewster Gallagher and co were always out of Swansea s league. Gyorkeres was within Swansea s budget but the football staff keep making bad decisions . Forum posters make excuses for them because they are locals. Whittaker and Al Hamadi run at people. Obafemi may need a stricter manager. Swansea should be selling Joseph for £2.5m. I have seen a lot of Abdullai as was very keen to see him in midfield and a box to box. He is similar to DeGuzman. Always moving never static. He runs it a team where everyone stands still until the showboating captain overhits a 50 yard diagonal. [Post edited 20 Jan 12:05]

Azeem Abdulai on 09:35 - Jan 20 by Whiterockin | This is how I see it obviously your opinion may differ, but I'm being objective here with no agenda for any player or coach. In the u21s he played in several positions central defence, full back, wide left and right, defencive midfield and slightly more forward, Lloyd played AM not Abdulai. He was tried as a wing/left back in the first team but he was diving in and not standing the player up, he gave away a penalty doing it. There is no way he would replace Grimes or Franco in the middle, he is too sloppy, not strong enough, off the pace and his mind is not quick enough. He is too much of a risk even to cover when Franco comes off. Playing him out wide was supposed to give him chance to get up to speed with Championship football, it hasn't worked out as hoped. If and I'm not sure about this, he has preferred a transfer to a loan that's his choice. We had already triggered a 12 month contract extension until June 26, he could have sat on that but he has just turned 22 and feels it's time to move on. I've no problem with that and wish him good luck, sometimes it's for the best for everyone. |
Can you really judge a youngster on trying too hard to rectify his original mistake which was the case for the penalty he gave away. As for being used out wide we have seen multiple players and critised and deemed not good enough, Ronald, Eom, Wolf, Christie , Laird, Pearl-Harris and Bianchini, even Tymon and Key are being pilloried for not being good enough and yet we have seen good points with all the above players, Abdulai has played some lovely balls into the box from the left when he has been given the ball quick enough to do something with it. Platino one bad game against Leicester and he is dropped like a stone when actually the whole team played badly. Guehi made mistakes but needed time to learn at the more competitive level in his preferred position, I don't know if Abdulai would make it in the midfield and maybe he wouldn't playing alongside some of the players who are in the midfield at the moment.

Like paterson. I bet he wishes he had made a different decision in the summer, with him here we would be closer to the play offs, would have definitely beaten the scum at least once and we wouldn't be in freefall.

Seemed as if Paterson upped his game to try and squeeze a better contract somewhere. I would be looking for a player with a future not one whose legs would be shot by half time. Cundle did have a work rate that complimented Ntcham, Cooper and Piroe, he did try and run at players at the edge of the box and I quite liked him, it may be a case of, he is not someone we need considering we have Cullen, Eom, Ginnelly, Cooper even Bianchini although I think there will be a call for playing two up top but would the pairing of Grimes and Franco be enough in the middle as a defensive midfield, Grimes is not up to the job never has been and that is one of our problem since relegation. The fear is now is if we take him out of the team we will plummeted, we may hold our own at times but the long term solution is not Grimes, might have been Abdulai but it appears we will not know

Brighton were considering recalling him because several Premier League clubs were interested in buying him. They have decided to leave him at Hull for him to continue his development as it has stalled through injury this season and will reassess in the summer.

Not for us. He will either be sold to a Premier League club or be in the Brighton match day squad, according to my mate in Brighton.

Yes but we have Ginnelly and Parker returning so i would expect them to take his place on the bench. Whilst no purchaes the return of these two could almost be classed as "new signings". Govea and Cooper also to return soon

He has s done a lot of bench time. The primary reason for not playing is not injuries. Ths Hull manager preferred the other keeper. Brighton made a mistake and put loan fees above development.

He injured his ankle in training on October the 18th and was ruled out for 3 months, made his first appearance against Doncaster in Cup 12th Jan, and then against Millwall last weekend. Bedia has been reserve keeper whilst Rushworth was injured. I don't where you got he's a done a lot of bench time from

He joined them the end of the window not at the beginning of the season and had a slight injury from the Brighton pre season tour so wasn't on the bench to start. We then had two international breaks before he was injured. But let's not let facts get in the way of complete BS. Edit Replied to the wrong post. [Post edited 20 Jan 17:45]
