Alfie Lloyd 22:07 - Jan 6 with 6190 views | JamieNaz | Wonderful cameo. Don't think it would have been as good if he had actually scored. Perpetual motion. Love him
Alfie Lloyd on 07:49 - Jan 7 with 1857 views | Tonto | Hmmm... he should have scored at least one. Had he dkne so then the game would have been over. So im.not going to anoint him just yet. But he was physical and full of energy which was required. Work in progress.

Alfie Lloyd on 08:15 - Jan 7 with 1756 views | Gloucs_R | I think he needs a loan for the rest of the season ideally. However, we're not blessed with strikers at the moment. So it depends on whether we think he's a long term championship striker. Would he score more in league 1 than Kelman has this season?

Alfie Lloyd on 09:59 - Jan 7 with 1523 views | robith | Earlier in the season I was pretty critical of him because he was a bit of a headless chicken and often created more problems than he solved. But that was a really disciplined performance last night. Liked how he could both hold up but also get in behind
Alfie Lloyd on 10:15 - Jan 7 with 1453 views | MrSheen | A lone striker can be a back-to-goal wrestler like Frey, Dykes or Chris Martin, looking to hold on long enough for support or buy a free kick, or a speedy wanderer like Lloyd played last night, pulling defenders into space and taking them on with pace. Lloyd first caught the eye for me against Luton in the league cup, when he suddenly gave us a threat after Celar (who can’t play either role) was easily snuffed out. I feel a bit for Kolli who has been asked to play back to goal in recent weeks and against Preston at home, it just doesn’t suit him. Good on him for taking it on though.
Alfie Lloyd on 11:10 - Jan 7 with 1324 views | bongo_king | Alfie Lloyd reminds me of Jamie Mackie, more than any other player we've had since Mackie. Will work his socks off, making up for his technical and physical limitations through pure effort (saw him literally throwing himself into bigger, stronger players last night). Not quite a striker, not quite a winger; may well be a bit short of the technical skills required for a champ level forward, but it doesn't matter because of pure effort and enthusiasm. A real asset in the kind of game situation we had from 70 mins yesterday. On a side note I was very impressed by Frey last night again. The guy is almost the dream target man. Strong as an ox, but with the touch of a ballerina. A really skilful lump who is showing an ability to finish too. Long may his form and fitness continue.

It is weird that Frey doesn’t seem to know how to clap. Holds his fingers very awkwardly. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Alfie Lloyd on 12:10 - Jan 7 with 1134 views | LazyFan | We saw him win more headers and also hold up the ball better than he has done in the past. Thats the coaching staff for sure. If he can improve his hold-up play ala Gallen style, then we have another forward on our hands. As that is what is needed most, hold up play. Hold the ball up, be an outlet so, we can get out of our own half. By playing it from the back, we force the opp to risk coming out to us, and then space opens up. The catch is that we get out, we which means we need to beat the press. There are many ways of doing this in football, one of them is the long ball up to someone like Frey or if Lloyd can do it. Whoever it is, they must hold on the ball for us to then come out and support. Lloyd didn't quite do that, but his headers and pace forced Luton back. This allowed the defence to come out and press them in the middle, where we won it back again. It's good to see we have an option other than Koli, though.

Alfie Lloyd on 22:39 - Jan 6 by BrianMcCarthy | Hmmm.... Not sure he is good with his feet. Miscontrolled another one tonight. He's clearly a lovely lad, though, and I'm very happy for him. But I'd imagine - to use a commentator's cliché - he'll be disappointed he didn't score tonight. |
Brian, I would concur with your comment about Lloyd sometimes getting himself in a tangle but saw a bit of a step-change in him last night, Clever substitution by Cifuentes as we needed that out-ball and option to play the ball into space behind their defence and for those 25 minutes on the pitch Lloyd was superb and changed the momentum of the game, I watched him closely last night as he was mostly playing right in front of me and thought his hold-up play, lay-offs were a level above what I'd had seen previously from him, against a very physical and mobile backline, Thought he was superb last night and looks an instinctive finisher, as thought he took the right option both times, and was very unfortunate not to score.

See what you mean having read it Brian. Really hoping he starts putting a few in the net and makes a go of it at Championship level.

I was sat directly behind that first one. Tbf I think he did everything right, and it looked for all the world like it was going in - not sure if there was just a touch of spin on it due to the way he dinked it, but I couldn't believe it squirmed past the post. The one that hit the post was pure instinct. Yes he's raw and sometimes looks confused, Bambi on Ice or both. He may or may not end up Champ standard. But I think he's responding to coaching and being given mostly cameo appearances much better than Armstrong did.

Agree with all of that, except for the comment on him being an instinctive finisher. I haven't seen enough to judge on that one. Hope you're right! And not sure he was unfortunate. He shot twice, and missed twice. Overall, though, I thought he did well.

Alfie Lloyd on 16:51 - Jan 7 with 702 views | Hastings_Hoops | Having attended matches with autograph hunting kids and having stood in the cold after matches for hours on end over the last year I can confirm that he is a really likeable guy. Always friendly, smiling and really engaging with the younger fans. Top, top character and a credit to the club - I really like him.
Alfie Lloyd on 18:01 - Jan 7 with 542 views | NorthantsHoop | I like Lloyd he is developing was impressed when he came on in the Spurs friendly in July, wondered whether we might have a bit of player on our hands. Last night as commented looked a lot more focused in the lone striker role and caused Luton plenty of problems. Saw at Bristol away how he was causing them problems when he came on 2nd half and getting us up the field. It is good we have options with him and Kolli when Frey has done his 60 plus minutes.

Only just read that, thanks for posting. Character-wise, he reminds me a lot of Eze. Doubt if he has the talent, but there's something about him and that character will take him a long way.
