One of my sons is a football coach on the "Seacoast" of the US. That's sort of around Portland Mine.
They have players from age 5 to full adult, boys and girls. Their teams range in ability from playtime scuffers to MLS wannabe's and some go on to professional contracts in the MLS.
They have an affiliation with Brighton FC who help them with coaching etc in exchange for talent spotting.
The coaches get coaching on the "modern" aspects of the game such as possession, overloading parts of the pitch etc.
His last group of boys (14/15) were not doing so well so he reverted to what he calls a "Reading style". Results improved because young boys attention span is that of a goldfish and simple is best. | | | |

By overloading midfield you inevitably leave yourself short of players in other areas & are vulnerable to be hit on the break. | | | |

Man City would win regardless of what system they played because they've got quality players that think for themselves & can play any system.
Also if you watch them they don't play too much suicidal possession football in their own penalty area, they do it further up the pitch & unlike Saints they speed their game up when they are near opposition goal. | | | |
