His playing years were just before my time, yet I find myself surprisingly emotional about Sir Bobby's passing. There is something about his personality that I found so impressive and moving - he seemed modest, a true gent. And of course his story (surviving Munich and going on to have such a career) was heroic. It is so poignant to think of him suffering from dementia in his final years, too. Was in Manchester the other week and spent some time at Old Trafford. The Munich Tunnel is a fitting tribute to that team - still incredible that the Busby Babes were the youngest two sides to win the league (a record which won't ever be bettered) and to win the European Cup a decade later beats anything Roy of the Rovers could have scripted. | | | |

I went along to his last game at Chelsea in a vain attempt to see him but being a young lad I thought I could just pop on down and get in at 2.45! Suffice to say, the old bill to told me otherwise.
