Very harsh Nothing wrong with the selection or work rate. We were the better side for the majority and would of won one nil if it wasn't for a stunner in the last min

Can all concentrate on mid-table together.

I just hate a lack of work-rate, Antti. It's absolutely unforgivable. To allow those eleven players to swan through the first half, and then to actually allow the same eleven players to start the second half showed a lack of respect for the competition, a lack of respect for the opposition and a lack of respect for ourselves.

I saw it different, no hassle. I wonder how many tackles our front three put in, or our midfield. I think Charlton played the first sixty without getting bruised or made to sweat. That's not good enough. And we could easily say that we'd have lost one nil if it wasn't for our stunner.

My sentiments exactly, and I suspect many on here. If Beale says anything else post-match, he'll be insulting our intelligence. Stef's pathetic, defeatist pen and Dieng's antics on the goal line - grinning, shouting and jumping about like an idiot - left a bad taste in my mouth too, and, though we didn't deserve to lose a piss-poor game, we definitely deserved to lose the shoot-out, and managed to clutch defeat (or rather Dieng managed not to clutch it) from the jaws of a deeply tedious victory. The only saving grace is that we now know Bonne, Dozzell, Hamalainen and probably Shodipo (notwithstading that late shot) shouldn't even be subs if Beale is serious about building a competitive, credible squad. Send Bonne back to Ipswich, Shodipo on loan to anyone who'll take him, and offer Hamalainen terms. Dozzell is so lacklustre I can't even be bothered to think of a fate for him. it makes my blood boil thinking of how that lot on the payroll probably make it even harder in the mind of Hoos to hold onto Willock. The performance of Chair tonight was also dismal, and he needs to have a long word with himself in the mirror. If he can't or won't impose himself on League One opposition, he's going nowhere fast. Only Dickie and to a lesser extent Dunne come out with any credit tonight. One positive takeaway: Armstrong is raw, but has real potential. I really hope he'll challenge Dykes for that no 9 shirt (or whatever he's wearing), who needs challenging. Otherwise, Roberts' good goal aside, I feel like I've just been beaten unconscious with a feather duster. [Post edited 9 Aug 2022 22:03]

Roberts and Armstrong both very exciting. And I thought the centre-backs were both impressive?

You shouldn’t count this game as three in a row,the club don’t seem to think any cup game is worth winning.

How can you say nothing wrong with the selection? Dozzell and Thomas together in midfield rarely got a pass right, never mind getting a grip on midfield. And yet they played the whole game. The only thing Dozzell got right was his penalty. You can say we would have won 1-0 if not for their last minute stunner, but the only shot we got on target was Roberts' stunner. Armstrong came close with one of his own in stoppage time.

Sloppy play and no intensity in our defending gifted that late corner...and an ongoing issue of not closing down the space on the box with any real intent, frustrating but positive from Roberts, Shodipo + Armstrong.

Think this club lost all self-- respect a long tim ago unfortunately. It is literally "moving deck chairs on the Titanic". After Saturdays great result and performance, I was hoping for a bit of momentum. I've said it before, we are going to have to have a good season at LR - we lack belief on the road and have for most of 2022. At least a newbie got our goal.

I concur. We always seem to play to the level of the opposition, and never set that level ourselves. It's a reactive rather than proactive approach, which makes too many of our matches closer than they need to be. I also don't understand why coaches in general (not just ours) wait so long to make changes. You could see the game was a stalemate at HT, so why not bring on three subs then instead of waiting another twenty minutes? I'm sure there's some sort of logic behind it but it eludes me.
Charlton match thread. on 22:04 - Aug 9 with 1466 views | stanistheman | It's what they get for treating the cup-tie like a reserve team game. The managers all say we picked a team strong enough to have won, but I always say that the players realise the manager is treating the cup like a 2nd rate competition and they follow suit.
