Happy League 2020/21 Week 34 (of 34) - Deadline Saturday 1st May 15.00 23:46 - Apr 24 with 4665 views | mfb_cufc | Week 33 Results WEST HAM UNITED 0 CHELSEA 1 Chelsea took a huge step towards securing a Champions League spot with Timo Werner's first goal since February. Since Tuchel's first Premier League game in January, only Manchester City (36) have won more points in the competition than Chelsea (29). Only 2 got this spot-on, and another 11 had the outcome. QUEENS PARK RANGERS 1 NORWICH CITY 3 Defensive duo Xavi Quintilla and Max Aarons both netted to nudge already-promoted Norwich closer to the Championship title. Nobody had this spot-on, but 20 did get the outcome. CHARLTON ATHLETIC 0 PETERBOROUGH UNITED 1 Peterborough kept in the running for automatic promotion with this narrow win, as they bring an end to Charlton's ten match unbeaten run. Charlton missed a penalty, after Frankie Kent had tripped Alex Gilbey. 3 got this spot-on, and a further 11 had the outcome. CREWE ALEXANDRA 1 ROCHDALE 1 Rochdale's run of three consecutive wins came to an end, as they get a 97th minute equaliser to rescue a point, after Crewe had scored in the 90th minute. Nobody had this spot-on, and only RSCOSWORTH got the outcome. 22 predicted a win for Crewe, with an unlucky 9 going for a 1-0. GILLINGHAM 2 NORTHAMPTON TOWN 2 Northampton scored twice in the final 11 minutes to rescue a point and keep their League One survival hopes alive. Again no 3 pointer for anybody, though 4 did have the outcome. The other 23 predicted a win for Gillingham. LINCOLN CITY 1 HULL CITY 2 Hull have been promoted back to the Championship at the first attempt after victory over their fellow League One promotion hopefuls. A magnificent 7 had this spot-on, and another 5 got the outcome. CAMBRIDGE UNITED 0 STEVENAGE 1 Cambridge missed the chance to secure automatic promotion from League Two as they were stunned by Stevenage thanks to Luke Norris' second-half header. No points for anybody from this game, as 26 predicted a win for Cambridge. CHELTENHAM TOWN 1 COLCHESTER UNITED 0 Cheltenham's superior goal difference means they are all-but assured of a place in League One next season, 3 had this spot-on, and a further 10 got the outcome. EXETER CITY 0 NEWPORT COUNTY 0 Newport remain in the League Two play-off places after this bore draw with top-seven hopefuls Exeter, who failed to have a shot on target. Something they need to improve on for next Tuesday. The final game this week to have no 3 pointer, but 5 did have the outcome. SOUTHEND UNITED 2 LEYTON ORIENT 1 Southend kept alive their slight hopes of League Two survival with this win. Well done to blueeagle for being the only one to have this spot-on, and just 2 more got the outcome. 21 predicted a win for Orient with 11 going for a 1-0 in what was the weeks most predicted score. It was off the field events that made the headlines with football this week, with the proposal of a European Super League, in what promised to be the biggest shake up in football since 1888, when 12 Professional teams broke away from what was an amateur game, to start the Football League. But thanks mainly to fan power, with all rivals united, the snakes who own the six Premier League teams withdrew, So the secret meetings to blow football apart failed, just like the gunpowder plot of 1605, but I don't think it is the last we have heard on this. The penultimate week of the season, and goals were in short supply in this weeks matches, until a total of 10 goals in the final quarter of games put an ever chaging complexion to results. Norwich and Gillingham were set to win 2-1, and Crewe 1-0, that would have given a huge boost to the weeks point scoring. Instead they all became three of the five games that failed to produce a 3 pointer. In fact we almost had a repeat of Week 31, with the same 16 spot-ons, and the total points of 117, just one more. Only one member had three 3 pointers, that was mfb_cufc, who achieved that for the first time this season, by getting the wins for Chelsea, Hull and Cheltenham, and one outcome, to make him the weeks top scorer with a very welcome 10 points. Two members got two 3 pointers, they were BFG, who had the wins for Peterborough and Hull, on his way to a very decent 8 points, and blueeagle who had the 2-1 wins for Hull and Southend, as he got a decent 7 points. Best of those who had one 3 pointer was TheFatGooner who had the Hull 2-1 and five outcomes, to give him a very decent 8 points. In the Premier In what has been the closest Premier ever, with just the 10 games to go it has suddenly opened up at the top and bottom. The top scoring effort from mfb_cufc has shot him to the top, for just the third time this season. Having the Chelsea 1-0 spot-on keeps basher2010 in with every chance of a first title. Three outcomes for last weeks leader sevebalo drops him to the final Charity Shield spot, and he has a lot to do for a first title. A solid week, that included having the Hull 2-1 spot-on, has moved Sector4 closer to the top three. The next five places is all about avoiding relegation, but it going to need a really decent last week from thrillseeker, who has dropped into the bottom three for the first time this season, to put them in trouble. Not the sort of tough week for point scoring gerry_us and Tropical_Us for looking for to give them any chance of escaping. In Division One Four outcomes, and a third week with no 3 pointer, for leader concordman, but he continues his cruise to promotion. He increases his lead as unitedwhites has to settle for two outcomes. They both remain strong favourites for promotion, though the decent week for blueeagle has given him a glimmer of hope, but the play-offs for the third season running, is his best chance of going up. After his early burst of 3 pointers, with 11 in the first 8 weeks, ghughes11 has struggled for them since, but a century of outcomes has given him a certain play-off place. A gradual improvement throughout the season for BFG, that has been capped by being in the top six for last 13 weeks, has also given him a certain play-off place. A top six place for durham_exile since Week 10, is favourite for the final play-off spot. A decent final week for either Lewis_1 or burnsieespana will be needed to give them any chance of a top six finish. The only other matter to be decided is who gets the wooden spoon, and after holding it for the past two weeks, Pinault_Noir hands it back to medicine_man this week. THE TABLES (270 out of 280 played) (Tie-breaker: Most 3 pointers, and then the first to post) Week 34 Fixtures The final 10 games of the season. Obviously it would be good to win the title, but I make it only 50/50, as anything can happen on a 10 game week, especially a difficult one like this weeks. Oh my goodness I think BASHER has nicked the title on the 3 point rule ! I could be wrong Wow ! We await confirmation in probably the closest finish of all time. Definitely an up and coming star anyway after nailing the charity shield the cup and promotion in successive seasons ! Thrillseeker gone it seems as predicted [Post edited 1 May 2021 17:33]
