Lots of countries are going to be in the same boat. With foreign holidays seemingly off the cards, hopefully staycations and supporting local and British businesses will lessen the impact.

How’s about taxing the turnover of companies who don’t pay Corporation Tax in the UK as a starting point and then moving forward from there. The shrinkage from the UKneconomy could be compounded by Brexit, but that’s anther story.

Top post. Some kids are disadvantaged because they don’t have tablets and computers at home to do schoolwork under lockdown. Get the bloody digital tax on Google, Facebook, Amazon et al. and fecking give those kids a chance.

The article is a few years old, but it highlights the issues. Apple and McDonalds had turnover in excess of a £2.6bn, profits of nearly £400m and paid less than £70m in tax. I am not saying they should be crucified, but the tax take looks pretty low.

We need to know how multinationals will benefit from this, because I'm sure that they have people who are also planning for that. For example, by taking the government money that was meant to help small businesses.

Obviously there have been big winners in this situation such as Amazon, and deservedly so in their case since we all use them.

And the scummy teacher unions are now trying to use this crisis as a bargaining posistion to get another pay rise. The coonts and their members have no shame.

Thank god the starving feckers do not work in the NHS.

Taxes will obviously have to go up to pay for the massive giveaways
BOJO is giving out at present, he really is going the extra mile to look after the working class, but I expect the lefties to still try to find fault in his generosity to them.

7,5000,000 paid up to £20,000 each for the 8 months from March to October to sit on their backsides sounds like a socialists utopia.Never again can the Conservatives be accused of not looking after the working man.

On a similar theme, will our labour council now bring down the council tax since there unfortunately are a lot less old folk in and going into care homes ?

They have used this excuse to increase CT by 3 to 4 times the rate of inflation the last 5 years.

I doubt if we will see any decrease to reflect this and probably another huge increase next year.

Taxes will go up but those that have benefited most should pay more, simple. Why should businesses be given rate reliefs yet carry on trading, same for income support and qualifying self-employed. Some people are unaffected yet still getting help and others have been shut down with no financial support other than loans.

Just cancel all the public debt and start again with a free world. Most of the money is owed to each other and the rest to big institutions who can afford to take the hit.

Looking after the working man? I guess that depends on who end up picking up the bill. If most of these tax rises (and any cuts) fall onto the working classes and small businesses then it's been nothing more than give a bit, take a lot.
It'll be interesting to see who's gained the most from all this. The online businesses have been raking it in.
I find it quite distasteful that you attack teachers like that, if not for teachers keeping schools open many NHS staff would have been at home and where would the NHS have been then? As many of us have found, home schooling is no picnic!
You call them giveaways but they're hardly anything like a giveaway because WE will have to pay the bill one day soon.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

My wife is a teaching assistant, after being driven from a professional NHS job by individual and institutional bullying. She has been on the rota for a primary school covering key worker children, Perhaps Pikey wants to be cleaning up after kids have soiled themselves with no PPE, distancing etc. This is a school with an excellent and supportive head. Teachers are being sent to essentially care for little kids so people can be sent to work. Perhaps he wishes to volunteer so 'scummy unions' do not need to protect their members health and safety. The government document on return to school may have been written by Hans Christian Anderson, such is the level of fiction and fairy tales within.

HASAWA Act is in great danger of being overridden by employers both intentionally and unintentionally

You utter f*cking lowlife scumbag, you really are the epitome of a clueless tory C*NT, we're in everyday ensuring those children of NHS staff have a place to go as well as those deemed vunerable, teachers are in on a rota looking after those kids, there are also teachers in making ppe for those on the frontline.
Trade Unions are quite rightly voicing their concerns that teachers et al only return when it's completely safe to do so, how many more deaths do you want, it's already reported that over 40 teachers have died due to this virus

The hair and the beard have gone I am now conforming to society, tis a sad day The b*stards are coming back though
