Dreadful pictures emerging of what looks like a devastating fire at Notre Dame in Paris.

An awe inspiring cathedral. Hopefully it can be saved and the damage repaired.

It’s absolutely gut wrenching to see such beauty being destroyed.

What evidence do you have that it’s them?

I’m assuming you have some evidence?

You surely wouldn’t just make stuff up to try to implicate innocent people in an attempt to gain attention on an internet site? Because that would make you an evil little sh*t.

Darran said maybe it was an insurance job. I said maybe it was the rioters. I base my comment on videos of them setting things on fire on the streets of Paris. I suspect it is not, but I am sure the authorities will be looking into arson as one possible cause.

Why are you being so abusive to people?

Yeah think of all the jobs this will create which is the only important thing in life so the French people will be able to put their bins out, and the police will have more tear gas

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

So no evidence at all then.

As suspected.

Have you noticed Yvette Cooper is in Paris, Daz? She's tweeted about being there.

Maybe it's a Remain plot, her next argument will be that we can't leave our French allies at their time of mourning.

I was just looking at when it was built 1163 or something, took almost 200 years to complete, can you imagine starting a project like that now, the cost would be prohibitive, unbelievable it's only taken a couple of hours to destroy.
Generations of craftsmen and artisans took 200 years just think for a moment, mad.

The only current project I can think of is the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. Which is also magnificent,

It’s the destruction of history that is so utterly sad.

Great minds.

It's sickening some are more devastated at damage to a building than celebrating the fact that thankfully there appear to be no fatalities, human lives always more important than buildings.

Oh yeah, saw a documentary on that once, will take decades to complete.
You're right it is sad, in years to come this will be seen as part of its history, right now, it will be a blow to the French people.

Oh, that’s right. No one has.

Very sad to see. I visited many times with my school and my family and we all found it amazing.

As alluded to earlier in this thread buildings can eventually be repaired/restored.

I'm pretty sure many rich and famous plus "Joe bloggs" will raise some funds like they did in other tragedies to hit their fine country in recent times.

Don’t be so ridiculous.

It’s the destruction of close to a thousand years of history and art. Of course it’s a major tragedy.
