Bad Manners (23 gigs) - in my humble opinion the best live band and pissed dancing gig. Was at a gig in Northampton 2004 and Buster Bloodvessel (Doug) collapsed on stage. After a minute or two some band members grew concerned, signalled to security & various people rushed to help. Paramedics were called and it took 8 men to stretcher him off stage & to the waiting ambulance. A bouncer told me & those standing nearby me that Buster had died ! Heartless piss heads that we were conjured up a chant "we were there when Buster died" which soon spread through the 500+ crowd. Eventually the band played on without him. Great time. Was on route driving to a Bad Manners gig in Leeds in 2010 and passed the band sitting on the M1 North grass verge with their tour bus broken down in hard shoulder. Stopped my car & ended up giving four of the band a lift to the gig. Spent three days driving them to gigs, living in hotels, socialising, eating & drinking (mostly drinking!) with the band. Great days. Lads asked how they could repay me and I cheekily explained I was getting married three weeks later and would they play at my wedding reception party. Band were booked for a gig on that date but played at my wedding reception venue at 4pm (after the speeches) and Buster lead a toast & serenaded my new wife. The band are in my wedding photos ! Again, great days. Frankie Goes To Hollywood played a tour warm up gig at Northampton Hot Air Balloon Festival - 20 August 2005. I was working on the bar all day so watched them arrive, set up and perform a 20 minute sound check. Just call it 'artistic differences' arose and the sound check was halted when a 4 man brawl kicked of on stage. There was a substitute lead singer as Holly Johnson wasn't on the tour and he landed a swinging left hook in a band member ! Two of the band refused to perform that evening's gig - the tour was later cancelled and the band split up. Fantastic gig that night.

Big name artists you have seen live on 21:32 - Oct 1 by Darran | I've said this before but I've seen Dire Straits three times and I can't stand them. Twice a fella was running a trip to see them from the Baglan Club and me and the boys put our names down for a laugh and another time they were on the bill in a festival. One of the times we were so off it on Bow & Blow I can't remember anything at all about it,my girlfriend reckoned I fell asleep five minutes before they came on,that was at the Showering Pavillion in Shepton Mallet. Good times. |
So you've only seen them twice then.

Big name artists you have seen live on 23:58 - Oct 1 with 2299 views | BarryTownSwam | Howard Jones played a university gig when I was a student. He copped off with one of my housemates and walked her home. I wandered downstairs next morning to see his hairy arse bobbing up and down on living room sofa and the psycho hippy girl from the room downstairs ! Surprised that she'd bagged herself (a z-list) pop star, but even more surprised he was actually a decent bloke who bonded with the me and the other 2 guys in the house over a bacon butty that morning. Even more surprised when heard I was travelling home to Wales later that day and offered to drive me from Nottingham to Bristol, from where I could catch the train over the border. He played some demo tracks in the car (cassette player) and signed a few bits & bobs for me. Vague memories now. I also served Captain Sensible when I had a summer job at John's Hot Bread Shop in Barry !
Big name artists you have seen live on 00:07 - Oct 2 with 2288 views | BarryTownSwam | Last post from me on this topic. Had an incident with Tony Hadley when he cut me up in a huge black Range Rover as I tried to leave a motorway petrol service station near Marlow/Maidenhead in 2008. Dangerous, inconsiderate driving. My gf at the time recognised him, thought he'd acted like a dick and gave him the middle finger through her passenger window. He lowered his window and called her a 'stupid c**t" whilst driving off at speed.

Big name artists you have seen live on 14:21 - Oct 1 by Darran | Sounds like it Phil Jones was the lead singer. |
If it is the same band then Phil always wore a cloak and the bass player was bollock naked except for his bass covering his modesty. Drummer looked like a really depressed John Lennon lol.

Saw Echo & The Bunnymen in The Troubador, Port Talbot, probably 1980 (supported by The Sound - doubt anyone has heard of them?), amongst other venues.

Roxy Music were wearing them as well. Ferry, Manzanera and Andy Mac are all over 6' and they looked like bloody giants on stage. Used to love early Roxy. The first two albums still sound like the future despite them being over 40 yrs old.

Big name artists you have seen live on 23:37 - Oct 2 with 2008 views | swanforthemoney | Some of the biggest names have been the biggest letdowns for me. Rolling Stones in Leicester 1979 or thereabouts. I was beside myself with excitement. They were past it I'm afraid, really disappointed. Similar with BB King. Favourite gigs probably Thin Lizzy with Scotty Gorham and Brian Robertson on leads. Also Dr Feelgood, Nine Below Zero at the old Bridge House, Canning Town. Felt dangerous. Great buzz

The Sound-great band, Jeopardy is one of my favourite albums. Also were in a Punk band previously-The Outsiders-who's album and singles are rubbish but do sell for decent money.
