Anyone else a little bit jealous that France has managed to come up with a fresh, young, intelligent, personable centre presidential candidate? I don't think our system lends itself to getting rid of the waste of opposition benches that is the Labour Party quite as smoothly. On the other hand Blair was like that once until he realised he was a messenger from God and had a higher calling.
Centralist is usually code for corporate sponsored.

You're not suggesting that an ex Rothschild investment banker millionaire who wants more austerity and produced a law that ensured the continuation of the reduction of worker's rights is going to be representing global corporate and financial interest over that of the general public are you Bazza?

Hollande has had 5 years. He's made things less equal and France weaker with socialist policies. What sane person would want more of that? It's just made Le Pen viable which is scary.
Macron does sound very personable. He was the Economy Minister in Hollande's government but said he is not a socialist. He did try to simplify some of France's archaic approaches to business. He's young, very intelligent and pragmatic. His movement (en Marche) is likely to contest the second round of the French presidential election, probably against Le Pen. Opinion polls in France currently give Le Pen a narrow lead for round 1, but indicate that Macron would get approx. 65% of the vote in the final round. That would not be dissimilar to what happened in the French regional elections in 2015(?). By contrast a run-off between Fillon and Le Pen would be much closer, although Fillon would still win. Macron is an EU supporter. So, if anybody thinks he will take a soft approach to the UK over Brexit, then they are likely to be disappointed.

No-one's going to change France's structural issues for better or worse, but to listen to Le Pen ranting for five years, she's like the worst matchday steward you've ever come across.

Given that we are France second largest consumer of both wine and petfume he may come around .

Ex socialist PM Manuel Valls publicly backed Macron, today, instead of the PS candidate Hamon. Macron and Le Pen running neck and neck in latest polls for first round.

He absolutely smashed Le Pen in the TV debates. I find it difficult to see many supporters of other candidates swapping to Le Pen so it looks like he'll stroll it. I prefer this "turn to youth" sort of voter rebellion than the sort we've seen elsewhere.
I see that a poll of British voters shows more people in Britain think Trump is doing a good job than think Corbyn is. To be fair that was 18% compared to 17%. Britain needs a throwback old man to inspire us to make Brexit work like QPR needs SWP back for next season's promotion push.
