QPR's worst ever player on 12:35 - Feb 17 by CamberleyR | Brian Williams was signed from Bury under the rule currently known as the "Eric Sabin Rule". During our run to the 1977 League Cup semi finals we had played Bury along the way. One can't be 100% sure but BW must have played for Bury that night and as is the case under the rule, had the game of his life against QPR. Frank Sibley, then assistant to Dave Sexton, must have remembered this performance and been suitably impressed as when he became gaffer in the summer, one of his first signings was BW (and contrary to what DW remembers, I thought it was £70k which in relation to the then transfer record at the time of £350k, was substantial). As is the usual case of someone signed under the Sabin rule, said player reverts to type i.e utter dogshit, when they pull on the blue and white hoops. He was quietly shifted on the following summer to Swindon and went on to have a reasonable journeyman career also turning out for both Bristol clubs. In fact I think he may have been the last player before Matt Taylor to transfer directly from Rovers to City*. *Edit: Just found out it was somone called Trevor Morgan in 1987 two years after Williams but Williams was the first. Cheers Camberley, that would explain a lot then. Reading his stats, he'd clearly made a reasonable career as a journeyman player if nothing else! When Eric Sabin joined and made his first sub appearance, my dad sitting next to me at the game enthusiastically quipped that Sabin reminded him of Thierry Henry. I might let him forget that one day.

QPR's worst ever player on 08:50 - Feb 17 by Superhoop83 | I voted for Murphy as my only clear memory of him was a dodgy performance against Tranmere after which he seemed to disappear. Having been reminded about Christer Warren though, I'll gladly swap them around. Having picked 12 players, I'll also drop Ready. Caesar and Rehman would have been some pairing. |
He wasn't that bad, in fact I had reasonable hopes for him but I think that Tranmere game turned fans against him and he fell out of favour. As I recall he and Lee Cook dithrered possibly trying to play safe but managed to concede possession to Tranmere who went on to score a late winner in a game we should have won.

TBF there has been enough sh1t to represent this club to make about 8 teams
| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

QPR's worst ever player on 13:10 - Feb 16 by CheshireR | If the criteria is simple lack of ability then Brian Williams gets my vote. In terms of value for money Wright Phillips just edges it from Julio Cesar. |
If you had the misfortune to watch him Brian Williams undoubtedly the worst player since 1961 ( when I first started)

QPR's worst ever player on 11:58 - Feb 17 by aston_hoop | We've really had some bad players, this is impossible to choose. For a complete genuine lack of ability, not many people get close to Bob Malcolm though. I've chatted with both Glasgow Rangers and Derby fans about him and both agree he was utter shite for them too so I have no idea how that man managed a career in pro football. In terms of the contextual ones, its SWP and Sandro for me. At least Malcolm was comedically shit, these guys were full internationals earning more in a week than most of us do in a year! As a relative youngster who wasn't around in the 70s, whats the deal with this Brian Williams then? Just how bad was he? And finally..Marcus Bean? Worst ever Player? thats one of the strangest things I've ever read on this board and I've read many a strange thing! |
Where would one start with Brian Williams? 1) Imagine a player that was a minimum of ten times slower than Ale Faurlin while Ale was on the operating table. 2) Imagine a player whose ball control was a minmum of ten times worse thn the Rob Green moment against Forest. 3) Imagine a player who managed to pass the ball out of play ten times more in one game than Rob Green managed in total. 4) Imagine a player who was ten times worse at heading the ball than Clive Allen was when outside the penalty area. Apologies to Clive as he never attempted to head a ball unless he sniffed a goal, whereas Brian just couldn't. 5) Imagine a player who moved ten times less on a ptich than Jan Molby did. That was Brian Williams at his best. Yet it was hard to hate the man. At least he did try! I'm sure that for all of us that had the pleasure of seeing him play, he is the first name inserted in our all time 11.

QPR's worst ever player on 20:02 - Feb 16 by Northernr | Anton Ferdinand is a good shout. Fcking crap. Sommer though wasn't that bad IMO. Better than Roberts who was a fcking liability over ten long years. |
Anton Ferdinand should never ever have been a professional footballer. He was just utterly terrible in every single department. A clumsy hopeless oaf. A pub player at the very best. If he hadn't had a brother and cousin by the same name who were very good he'd have never ever have got a look in anywhere. Roy Keane spent £8 million on Anton Ferdinand - it's why I ignore everything he says as a pundit, he lost his right to an opinion the day that deal went through.

QPR's worst ever player on 15:37 - Feb 17 with 2246 views | BrixtonR | Karl Ready Alan Brazil Clive 'Flasher' Walker but for most damage done over a long period it has to be Tony bleedin Roberts. I still haven't got over being one of the 7299 (sadly I didn't have to look that up!) who saw his debut in a match moved to the last Friday night before Christmas in a disgraceful 1-2 home defeat to Coventry, the second goal he conceded still winds me up now !
QPR's worst ever player on 15:50 - Feb 17 with 2224 views | BazzaInTheLoft | Football is definitely a game of opinions because Terrell Forbes and Marcus Bean would not be anywhere near my list! Forbes was player of the year once, and so was Karl Ready. I also think Rio Ferdinand has extenuating circumstances while he was here. Ned Zelic for me. I was only 12 but even then could appreciate his couldntgiveafvckery [Post edited 17 Feb 2017 15:51]

QPR's worst ever player on 16:09 - Feb 17 with 2198 views | Berkohoop | I very rarely post but having read this I feel compelled to do so. having first watched Rangers in 1971 and been pretty regular for most of the time since, I do feel qualified to make my nomination with the confidence that there has been none worse before and even with the many contenders (pretenders) to the crown since, his like will never be seen again. I first saw him playing for Bury against us in a League Cup game on a cold Tuesday night in late 1977...you know where this is going.... Brian Williams For someone who is over 50, hasn't seen BW play for Rangers for nearly 40 years, his sheer rubbishness is as clear now as it was then. My highlight? Taking a quick free-kick in order to gain an advantage, the only problem was that he passed straight to an opponent who was standing 10 yards in front of him! An awful, awful footballer but unlike others named here, he displayed a great attitude!! To think he shared a dressing room and pitch with Bowles.... In summary, nobody else will ever come close. You cannot put Chris Plummer in with that lot. I thought he was OK. Many more centre backs we've had were a lot worse than him.

QPR's worst ever player on 18:43 - Feb 17 with 2021 views | langtoft | Wow this thread has made me laugh and watch behind my fingers in equal amounts. So yes Gus Ceasar was truly terrible during his loan spell and in particular on a very cold afternoon in December away at Wimbledon. And yes he was part of that side that lost 8 or 9 games on the spin. Ultimately though his ineptitude was short lived and his involvement with the Club resulted in us appointing Bobby Gould as coach with Tilson, Peacock and Brevitt following through the door immediately after that. Peacock and Tilson were instrumental in us winning at Derby the following game. Ceasar gets a let off for that reason. Just. Honourable mention to Ian Dowie and Keith Rowland who were the 'short change' element of the Sinclair deal but neither I feel were close to being the worst to pull on the Hooped shirt. So it comes down to Brian Williams & Boswinga for me. The background to both deals was frighteningly similar (as they also were with the Stan Bowles deal) ….. ok bear with me here. Signings on reputation alone - Stan and BW on the strength of a performance against us and JB because he'd kind of been pretty good at other clubs before us (although not against us ;-) ) Signings with an eye on the impact that all three would inevitably have on the team. Here the similarity ends - quickly removing Stan from further mention. In terms of footballing contribution to our club JB and BW have a zero rating. The difference is though that BW applied himself, his effort could never be faulted in the 19 or so games he played for us. His application and work ethic was fine, he never refused to play for us. He was just out of his depth but he had an opportunity and I couldn't dispute that he gave it a go. It just didn't work out and he was a little bit (a lot) rubbish for us. Boswanker on the other hand did none of these. His footballing ability whilst with us matched that of Williams but his contribution had a massively negative impact on the Club, the matches he played in and the fans who watched his performances. And that for me is the 'tie-breaker' between the two of them for me. If I HAD to choose one of them (or any of those mentioned in previous replies) to play one more match for us Boswinga would be last one I'd ever pick

QPR's worst ever player on 19:11 - Feb 17 with 1932 views | R_from_afar | Here's another: Liam Miller. Powderpuff, well, at least he was in the game I saw him playing in. I find it quite incredible that he played for - gasp - both Celtic and Manchester United. Heck, and his country too! On that basis, the very least that us lot on this message board should expect from our professional football careers is 15 years as a journeyman Championship player. Maybe I saw him on an off day.
