The way this seasons panning out i'd take 26! I wouldn't in reality of course, but i can't remember a Premier league season where so many teams are on so few points at this stage.

for 36 points to not be enough, if we got to 36 pts we'd need 6 wins, meaning one of Palace,Hull or Sunderland would need to win 7 more games

I'd take whatever it takes to stay up but I think 36 points this year will be just enough.Hull, Sunderland, Palace and Middlesborough will struggle to reach 36.Leicester are in freefall too and only once has a side won the league one year and the following been relegated. The quicker they're out of the CL the more chance they have of not being the second side to do it.

Looks like 32 could do it. With our goal difference then 33 more likely.
The answer of course is to get as many goals on board as possible and let the others worry about us.

You do realise though that by posting that, it backs up the belief that 36 will be enough, no matter what happened with Newcastle.

Allardyce got Sunderland, who were in the position we are now, to 39 points. He might do similar with Crystal Palace.

You do realise that teams in the relegation zone tend to pick up a few wins near the end of the season? Remember Newcastle last year under Benitez (not good enough), and Leicester the year before. I don't think 36 points will be good enough.

Not if 36 points sees us in the bottom 3. If it doesn't then yes.

Swings and roundabouts mate, who knows what will happen, but the question was would you take 36 points, and the way this season is panning out with 3 teams having less than half that after 22 games, you can bet your ass i would!

2 of our last 3 games are at home and the away game is at Sunderland, those home games are going to be crucial.Palace have the 2 Manchester clubs away and Sunderland,Hull and Chelsea away both very tough to pick up point.

It's looking like a fairly low total to stay out of the bottom three this year. I think 36 will probably do it, but would be cutting it very fine

16 fixtures left, and 5 wins and 3 draws seems pretty realistic. In fact maybe even selling ourselves a little short, if we can continue playing like we have the last 3 league fixtures (5 out of 6 very good halves of football).

And I'm not so sure 36 will be enough. What if one of the 3 clubs currently below us gets hot? Palace, as bad as they've been, seems potentially the most dangerous.

36 points won't be enough, especially with our goal difference.

The bottom teams almost always pick up more points later on in the season.

We will need 39 points minimum imho.

Could be. I think a simpler way of looking at this is: would you take a coin flip at the end of the season to decide our fate?

Before today, and certainly at midseason, just about all of us would have gladly taken 50/50 odds. After today, I doubt most still feel that way.

Of course, that's subject to change very quickly, 1 awful game against Southampton could be enough to swing the pendulum again, in fact.
