Ash - from a friend of a friend. 08:08 - Aug 7 with 26103 views | Thornburyswan | No pictures or quotes to back it up but 'I know someone who is very friendly with Ash's family' & she has heard that Everton have offered to almost double his wages' & he sees it as his last significant contract - he has been looking at property up in the North West. I guess we could offer him more money to stay but suspect if Everton get anywhere near £12M+ we'll move on - assuming Fed's fit looks like him & Amat to me @ Burnley.

Ash - from a friend of a friend. on 08:22 - Aug 7 by Joe_bradshaw | Maybe Everton should have considered the old fashioned route of having a bid accepted before discussing personal terms with the player? Having tapped him up to the point of offering to double his wages you'd have thought they'd have quickly offered an increase on the £8M rising to £10M with add ons that was turned down by the Swans. We may have indicated that we'll accept a bit more but not until we've secured a replacement as we seem to have done with Ayew? |
This is spot on. Ash was done and dusted contractually 9 days ago but not the transfer fee. Obviously Huw went to sleep again and left the phone off the hook. [Post edited 7 Aug 2016 10:07]

Ash - from a friend of a friend. on 09:29 - Aug 7 by Jackfath | Not fishing (it's odd that when one posts a differing viewpoint people automatically assume one must be fishing) Neither am I saying he hasn't earned enough. It's all relative. I cannot understand those who would begrudge someone "doubling" their wages for the next few years until they retire. |
But you've changed the point of your argument to anyone would look to move to double their wages (if of course this is true) from he needs to provide for his family.' It's not an automatic jump to an assumption of fishing, it's just there was little logic to your original argument which can indicate fishing for a reaction. As to your second argument I agree that it is all relative. A doubling of wages would make a much bigger difference to the lives of most people who watch the swans compared to those who now play in the first team. An entirely different point.

I haven't changed the point of my argument at all. I responded to the OP who indicated Ash was potentially going to double his wages. Something that any normal person would jump at the opportunity to do so. I'd say there was clear logic in that and it is indeed you now who is choosing to do the fishing.

You'd think by now Ash would have enough cash in the bank for him, his children and grandchildren to live well for the rest of their lives. It sounds an odd thing to say, but what would he do with a few extra million? I think, for some players, the salary is an ego trip, so they can show how much they are valued against their peers. There's no possible financial reason why the really top players want a pay rise from £10M a year to £12m. It's meaningless.

Ash - from a friend of a friend. on 10:28 - Aug 7 with 2482 views | Joe_bradshaw | I don't see many griping about Ash doubling his wages, that's a no brainer really. I don't understand why this deal hasn't been done yet so we can all move on and Ash can get to know and train with his new team. We rejected Everton's offer on August 1st., it's now August 7th. Everton are apparently awash with money so why haven't they thrown another few million at us and concluded the deal. They've already negotiated to double Ash's wages so for f***s sake put the money down and pay the asking price. Why the delay?

Ash - from a friend of a friend. on 08:58 - Aug 7 by somersetsimon | Whichever agent started the rumour that Stones is worth £50M is a genius. Most people seem to have accepted the idea that he's a £50M player despite any evidence to support that. If Man City manage to buy him for 'only' £30M, they will think they have a bargain! |
This. If Everton get even £30 million I reckon their board should bubble wrap him and carry him over to Manchester in a sedan chair Don't trust the car driver (of which there'll be about 30 odd thousand!) in case there's an accident!

Ash - from a friend of a friend. on 11:17 - Aug 7 with 2119 views | londonlisa2001 | It'll soon become a 'fact' that Ash is doubling his wages. I have no doubt that is the sort of story he'll be happy to put about by the way, so don't doubt the OP at all, but what nonsense. Think about it. Why would any club double someone's wages? He'll be on a lot of money with us. Wouldn't be at all surprised if it was in excess of £50k. Everton aren't going to say - we'll give you £100k a week! For that, they could be bringing in an absolutely top notch centre back from virtually any of Europe's top clubs. One who is 24 or 25, with a big resale value. Just not going to happen. Ash will like the thought of Everton as it's the 'big club' he thinks he deserves. He can look his mate Rio in the eye with that one. He'd move there for the same money or close to it - it wouldn't need to be anywhere near doubled. Although he'll use his mates in the press (Wathan etc) to claim it's a huge deal money wise. If Everton come back with a bigger bid, we shouldn't hesitate. With him and Ayew gone perhaps we can have the odd window without their agents behaving like this. Gylfi's agent didn't do it. And he actually is our best player. Nothing at all apart from class - I want to stay, negotiate a new contract, and signed. Ash of course isn't the 'biggest player' anymore. I imagine coming back from the Euros he thought he would be. Signing a bloke who's won the World Cup and Champions League has scuppered it. Time to say goodbye.
Ash - from a friend of a friend. on 11:17 - Aug 7 with 2117 views | FearOfAJackPlanet | If he does go, and if he wants to go and Everton are willing to up their offer then I've got no problem with it. I would hope we'd then look to bring in a new centre half to replace him, unless we think the new Dutch chap is good enough. I'm in a seeming minority who don't think Amat is good enough to be a 1st team premier league regular in that position. I just think he lacks physical stature, he's poor in the air and gets skinned too often in individual duels in the box. Delighted if I'm proved wrong though.

Spot on Lisa. No chance in a million years are Everton going to be paying Ash £100k plus a week, not going to happen. I think he probably does want out now, so a move will be good business for both parties, especially at £10m plus. Only thing that concerns me is the time it takes to get a replacement up to speed as I assume it will be someone who hasn't played Premier League football before. I'm not overly confident if we are banking on Fede and Amat being first choice partnership, although they did do well at the end of last season.

Very happy Darran. Sitting in the sunshine in my garden with a lovely cup of coffee, shopping done and the rest of the day to relax ! Very happy with Llorente and Baston. Very happy to get £20m plus for Ayew and will be happy to get anything near £10m for Ash. Will be even more happy if we can bring in one extra wide player and a right back! (Don't think the latter will happen). Thought we played well yesterday and I quite liked the look of Van Der Hoorn or whatever his name is. Better than I was expecting. Get fed up of the egotistical self serving nonsense from Ash though. He's a great player, but this constant drama is just boring. He's not John Charles for God's sake (actually not sure he's Jeremy Charles for that matter) :-)

Ash and Amat are similar - great in open play, not great from set pieces as they are small and don't have a great leap to make up for it. Both need to play with a physically dominant centre back and Fede can be, but blows very hot and cold. That new guy looks more physically dominant - I thought he looked quite good yesterday, but nit quite ready. The bloke that's been rumoured looks the type. Be interesting to see if we pursue that if Ash does go (which I think he will - he certainly wants to it seems).
