England v Russia fighting. Sounds nasty on 13:58 - Jun 13 with 3671 views | Konk | I went to St Petersburg for five days a couple of years ago, and whilst I’m glad I went, and in many ways it’s an impressive city, I’m not in a rush to see the rest of Russia. A couple of Russians I know in London kept telling me that St Petersburg has a reputation amongst other Russians as being some sort of 24 hour fun factory, where the laughter never ends, but we saw four people smile during our stay. Four. It really got to me. Met two really sound blokes on our last night, who were really interesting and a good laugh, and people were generally friendly enough, but my wife and I were borderline depressed by the time we left. A month of people looking glum, local nutters and bent OB doesn't seem too attractive a proposition to me.

England v Russia fighting. Sounds nasty on 13:54 - Jun 13 by DeepcutHoop | Utterly ridiculous, as everyone has said from the start. And then we to Qatar, where a Dutch women is under arrest for being raped at the moment. Richard Keys was adamant it was the most liberal place in the world though, so clearly that's just a blip. On the fighting, interesting take from an Irish journo here, sums up a few of the viewpoints on here. http://www.irishtimes.com/sport/soccer/international/ken-early-russians-go-to-wa |
She's been convicted. However, they think they've been merciful because they're deporting her without lashing her first.

So one final thought. You cannot lead a very powerful and lowest common denominator election campaign, based on demonising immigrants and the very concept of immigration; on making the claim that Britain is somehow different from the vague foreign mass; on telling us that we are not the same, that we are somehow better; that we have nothing in common with people who live across a tiny strip of water; that we should put up walls, restraints, that they are the reason for our failing NHS and myriad social ills. You cannot do this without also creating a dangerous, divided climate, in which hatred festers. English hooliganism never went away, but it has not been as identifiable and vocal for some time. Long before the Russians showed the sinister, orchestrated face of the new football violence, drunken English fans were gathering to sing anti-European songs in Marseille's port. You reap what you sow. Craven politicians have, in part, sown this. They know who they are. Excellent article that, cheers for posting. That's the view point that most people have now, too many quick to judge. Sometimes it's better to wait it out before criticising.

He's got a point, and one that Ken Early also talks about in his piece. That article being in the Daily Mail adds a frisson of irony though
England v Russia fighting. Sounds nasty on 15:02 - Jun 13 with 3436 views | Konk | Given that England and Wales will be staying in Lille along with the Russians, I’d like to see the French police at the very least, kettle the Russian mob and use the time productively by making the scruffy t wats go clothes shopping. Not sure what Lille’s like on the togs front, but for fu ck’s sake, you tramps, you look a right two and eight in those running shorts, sawn-off jeans and t-shirts off the market. You look like a load of Russians from 1985 - when you at least had communism as a legitimate excuse for shi t clothing. And the bu m bags — deary fu cking me. No wonder they’re so angry — I’d be angry if I looked in my suitcase and that was the best clobber I could cobble together on the day of a big game. They should have been turned back at the border by the fashion police. [Post edited 13 Jun 2016 15:04]

The two Russian arrests for were going on the pitch. Seriously. Not one of their mob was nicked on Saturday. Top policing.

I think that goes without saying tbh, our FA isn't there to deal with everyone else's fans. In a situation that is as toxic as it is, asking our fans to behave themselves is fair enough I think.

I'm not looking at this bloke thinking he looks terrifying, I'm just wondering what's going on with his body hair coverage and what the fu ck's up with his teeth (but I've now sussed that out). Is this Russian mob the worst groomed collection of blokes ever? Sorry to go the full Gok Wan, but this lot need an urgent makeover.

I watched one of those "Great motorcycle rides" on TV and Henry Cole, when in Russia, asked his translator/guide why they all look so glum. She said people just don't smile, especially to strangers, it's a cultural thing it seems. They may be happy as Larry inside but they just don't show it. My girlfriend is Russian and sometimes I find it hard to read her as she can be like this. Not always but it does make it hard to judge. I ask her if she's OK and she breaks out into a smile but the natural demeanour can be strange to us (not to them though, it's normal!). I'm surprised Norway has the highest suicide rate in Europe, I thought they'd be 2nd.

I agree wholeheartedly. We should also never fly the St Georges cross... Not support our country en mass Never be patriotic And really should gather in town squares when abroad to sip tea, eat cucumber sandwiches (crusts removed of course) and maybe do the odd bit of Morris Dancing In other words. Fcuk Off!
