Is bury pay on the day yet? 12:15 - Mar 9 with 14866 viewsdingdangblue

They've sold 500 tickets. The majority of them guessing that like EVERY other away ticket game this season it will be pay on the day. The stand holds 3500? Surely anyone with a slight bit of intelligence would have looked at past away figures and known there will be over 1000 empty seats. Is there really any need for bury fans being all ticket beforehand?

Maybe by making it all ticket we are doing them a favour.
Stewie can improve the cash flow and rake off a couple of quid a ticket in 'administrative' costs. The money would sit in a bank account earning interest. Then he brings a big bag of money to Spotland with the proceeds from ticket sales. Then I woke up and it was all a dream ...
Have Bradford received their share of the FA Cup tie yet?
Have we received the proceeds from bury's ticket sales for the FA Cup tie?

I agree with you about the all ticket fiasco, but it seems your lot are finding the same convenient excuses not to come as they were accusing Dale fans of in October.

You can't have it both ways.

Not sure about fiasco - everyone knows its going to be pay on the day.

Hence why it's a fiasco.

Making it all ticket in the first place, when the ground was only going to be about half full, was a nonsense.

I like how ticketing arrangements are always so clear for the paying customer.

The lack of issues is always a bonus.

They generally wait to scrap the all ticket affair until the day before,by which time anybody who's actually bothered attending has already had the inconvenience to sort out a ticket.

If it had anything to do with either club it would be POTD but it's GMP who decide such matters these days

According to the Bury Forum the latest is

BREAKTHROUGH: spoke to Colin Garlick on the phone at Rochdale. Explained he is in contact with police and we could expect an announcement by the end of the day for pay on the day. Couldn't have bumped into a better person to speak to. He says he is talking to the police about lost revenue.

His words "I want to take as much money off you as possible and send you home dissapointed" haha good man!

Good news.

Police advice? Certainly not police intelligence - all they are doing is tempting away fans without tickets to pay on the day IN THE HOME ENDS!

Obviously this isn't going to happen with the surprise announcement later.

Surely "police advice" is just that, advice. These decisions are initially made soon after fixtures come out and I have no problem with the club taking advice.

My issue - and it seems, many others - is as we get nearer specific games, it becomes a lot easier to gauge whether the reasons for any "all ticket" decision is still valid ie league position of both clubs, recent away followings taken by t'other club etc..

In the run up to this game it's been obvious for days if not weeks that this fixture is not going to attract a bumper crowd.

What would be the repercussions of the club (having listened to advice), taking a unilateral, sensible decision to announce pay on the day at the beginning of the week?

YOU do not have the right to give someone else permission to tell me what I can and can't do.

Like the club did with home fans - what was so difficult in announcing that both clubs would prefer fans to purchase tickets before match day to make entry into the Stadium easier and quicker - but the option to pay on the day was available ! Its not bloody rocket science.

Great last point Dorset

Yes listen to police advice but we all know in this case and many others that its wide of the mark.

The club / Colin Garlick need to grow a pair and tell GMP "thanks for the advice - we'll bear it in mind"

Surely we can do that but like you say what are the potential repercussions? Classing these games as all-ticket then changing at the last minute (by which time the "possibles" would probably have made alternative arrangements) surely costs the club money. More transparency is required - a Question for the Directors at the next meeting with the trust perhaps?

I don't think you should take the word 'advice' too literally. It's more like police 'orders'.

I imagine the repercussions would be the police then deciding to double their presence at the game, which Dale would have to fund.

As you say, though, it should never have been made all-ticket in the first place.

So the Police in their wisdom , think its a good idea to have all ticket just for away fans in a derby game? Yeah right, fortunatley I dont think any bury fans would of been brave enough to go in the home areas, well I hope not dont want any bother like the biffos I'm too old for all that malarky.

That last paragraph raises some really good points. Email it as a question to the Trust and I'm sure they'll add it to their other questions.

Taken from FA guidelines

Police will attend games at the invitation of the host club. Under the UK law football clubs have to pay for the costs of police officers deployed inside the stadium or on club property under a special services agreement.
As soon as the fixture list for each season has been published, the club and local police will meet to discuss the categorisation of each home match — each home match will be risk assessed and categorised according to that risk. Category CS (Club Security) means that the match will take place with the football club and its stewards providing the only security presence, with no police officers in attendance. Category A is a low risk game, B is medium risk, C is high risk and Category C IR (increased risk) means a very high risk game. A formula is agreed between the football club and the police before the start of each season setting out the numbers of police officers that will be deployed to the different categories of matches.
The match categories agreed at the start of the season can be reviewed as the season progresses. Further meetings between the club and the police are usually held two weeks and also 24/48 hours before each match and the latest intelligence from both police and the club safety officer will be discussed at those meetings, possibly leading to a revision of the match categorisation and an increase or decrease in the number of police officers to be deployed at the match.
Special measures for high-risk games For high-risk games, the home club and its local police might consider an earlier kick-off to reduce the potential for alcohol consumption by spectators and to lessen the risk of violence. In England, football matches are traditionally played on a Saturday at 3 pm, but high-risk games can be brought forward to a 12 noon or 1 pm kick-off on the Saturday, or moved to the Sunday when the roads and the city centre are usually quieter.
For exceptionally high-risk games, the two clubs, in collaboration with the host club’s police force can consider requiring the away fans to travel in an organised coach convoy to the match. In such cases the away supporters have to buy a voucher in advance of the game, which they can exchange for a match ticket on the coach. They will meet at their club’s stadium and travel in a convoy of coaches, under police escort, to the other club’s stadium and the tickets are only handed over in the coaches. Some clubs with fans who might live a long way away from their stadium have arranged a rendezvous point for supporters nearer to the home club’s stadium, for example at a motorway service station.
The Football Association June 2012

Maybe open to interpretation but I see that as being at the discretion of the club.

It really makes sense in future to just 'advise supporters' to buy a ticket for these games rather than enforce it. With the knowledge beforehand that they can pay on the day (if it doesn't sell out)(which it wont).

Interesting article, but like you say, it's open to interpretation.

It does say 'the club and local police will meet to discuss categorisation of each home match', but doesn't specify who has the final say.

I'm still of the opinion that the police have more say in the category of games than the clubs do.

Regardless of all that, tomorrow's game should never have been all-ticket; in fact, there's no reason for any Dale v Bury game to be all-ticket!
