Who is the most famous person you have known? (non QPR) 12:54 - Dec 29 with 30289 viewsTonto

Quiet at work, so thought this might be fun and take our minds off the footy:

To qualify as "known" you must have been on first name terms with the person (both ways!). You do not need to still be in contact with them (e.g. your baby sitter when you were a kid counts!)

Mine is Louise Stewart - BBC South East Political editor, occasionally seen on the main news, but mostly in the local versions.

Was at Uni with her, she was the flat mate of a girl I was keen on, but never got it on with for various reasons and ended up in the friend zone...

Why stop now, just when I'm hating it

Tom Pryce, James Hunt and John Watson - all Grand Prix drivers drove for my dad's F2 team in the mid 70's. Tom was the most down to earth and charming person and still remember him well and driving me back from a pub in Woking in an 1.2 Opel Kadett and scaring the shisse out of me. Tom was the first person I knew well who died!! He was only 27 and my hero and I cried for days!
I met Wattie about 20 years later and explained that I knew him earlier when I was a kid and he remembered me and my sister as being very well behaved and giving me a Helmet visor around 1977!!!
Also at a similar time knew Alvin Stardust who was introduced to my parents thru another driver of my Dad's team who used to be his roadie when he was Shane Fenton. Still have a picture of me and Alvin and gets bought out occasionally just so my kids can marvel at the checked flares I was sporting that day in 1976!!

I mentioned a little while ago my dad was a PR man/literary agent etc. so I got to meet an awful lot of weird and wonderful people. He ran the business from home and used the phone a lot - trouble was Steve and I ran a second hand car buy/sales as well to make ends meet and used the same number. You never knew when it was someone like John Gielgud phoning up...."Johnny heeeer,is papa at home?" or "'allo mate, you got Cortina for sale yeah?"Half expected one day to get Larry Olivier phoning to say.."that f*cking Jag you sold me just swallowed a valve up the M4"

I can only claim to be on first name terms with Mary Woodvine, the actress and daughter of John Woodvine. She was my mum and dad's next door neighbour and I didn't know who she was until they said. i later got to know her when I acted for her as a conveyancer - a very nice lady - I've also said a passing hello to her dad when he was in the veggie shop with her in Penzance

General Sir Michael Jackson ('Mad Mike'according to the Sun/Darth Vader according to his troops) who famously told the the yanks whilst commanding in Kosovo 'he would not start world war three on their say so'. Ronnie Barker and David Suchet were close neighbours in Pinner although one is now dead and the other moved away.

One dies and the other moves away. What sort of neighbour are you?
Coming from Stonebridge I could say I know a lot of people who have been on TV and are famous. Some have evaded capture and others still appear on Crimewatch.

talking of infamy, I've had an in depth conversation with Tracie Andrews (the road rage killer who has been resettled under an assumed name) about the extent of the Iceland frozen Chinese meal section and I know the chap she's run off with

Nice of you to say so Pommy but up against some competition.

Lived next door to and worked with Ardal O'Hanlon for a few years, went out with Francesca Gonshaw when she was in Allo Allo, had a one night stand with Juliette Binoche (but didn't know who she was until afterwards), hung out with Kim Wilde for a few years. Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock) from The Beastie Boys is a family relation and used to invite me to shows in the UK, but doesn't contact me these days. Not sure why. I did once (stupidly) turn down Janine Lindemulder, the porn star who was on the cover of the Blink182 album. Lovely but bad timing. I knew glenn Roeder and his family very well. Great bloke. My favourite person who was well known that I knew well was Johnny Morris. In a sea of horrors at the BBC he was a complete gem. An all round brilliant bloke. I worked with Depeche Mode years ago and thought Dave Gahan was a particularly good bloke. Worked briefly with Joanna Lumley and was in total awe of her. Lovely lady. Working with Whispering Bob Harris at the moment and he again, is a really nice and down to earth man. Nice family too.

Saw a Milky bar ad being shot around my area once but can't claim to know a Milky Bar Kid.

He's not that famous, but me and few mates spent 2 weeks in Majorca with 'Vodka Vic' Kasule. He certainly was a bit of a character and he certainly lived up to his reputation for hard-drinking. Great fun and had some brilliant stories about his football career. I think he was on the slide then and at Shrewsbury.

Went to college with a namesake of our goalie who went on to be the drummer in Toploader.

I was at college with Russell T Davies (though he only added the T later), who wrote Queer as Folk and resurrected Dr Who. I clearly didn't know him that well as I didn't realise he was gay.

Sorry Fred (thanks for the note the other day, only saw it yesterday and will reply) - but I can offer nothing of interest to this thread.

Not only do I not know anyone famous, I don't even know of anyone who knows someone famous.

if really clutching at straws.........

Dominic Holland (comedian, presenter, writer) was in the year above me at secondary school and knew my best mate much better than me as they were both from Chiswick.

Eddie Newton was in by youngest brother's class at secondary school before he went over to the "dark side".

That bloke who was the cox of the coxed fours who cried when he won gold and was thrown in the river by the squad was in my other brother's class at school - think he commentates on rowing now - can't even remember his name.

Don't think anyone from my year went on to be anyone famous.

I once was introduced to Shane McGowan at the 18th birthday party of the daughter of the Pogue's manager Frank Murray - she used to go to Lourdes as part of our group. Obviously McGowan will have had no recollection of ever being at the party let alone being introduced to me.

Pathetic really.

Presenters Tanya Bryer and Kay Burley…wouldn't be first on my dinner invite list, let's just say.

That's all you're getting !

Not so famous, but maybes infamous. Went to school with Clive Goodman (phone tapping the royals) and Peter Bleksley (undercover cop), blek is a really nice bloke, hasn't changed much , but soooooo different when we were at school. Went fishing together and get this.....the best bit , he has blue and white hoops running through this veins.

When i was a nipper I used to play footie with Asil Nadir's son in the private gardens opposite their gaff in Eaton Sq and met Asil a couple of times in their apartment there. My mum used to clean some of the gaffs there in Eaton Sq and used to bring me along, got to know Patrick Lichfield too.
Andrew Lloyd Webber had a place next door but never got to see him or Sarah Brightman ( always fancied her! )

As a kid i used to deliver newspapers to Michael Wale who was an awful tipper until he found out i was a QPR fan then was lovely.

I used to know Trevor Sinclair and kev Gallen back in the mid 90's through drinking in the boulevard iN Ealing on a Tuesday. I helped Trevor carry Kevin Gallen out one night and put him in a taxi but I imagine most people around Ealing at that time have similar tales.

Emma Willis who hosts Big Brother and the Voice now used to be on first name terms with me when i worked at MTV and she was a right laugh. Lara Lewington also used to have a chat with me in the lift at work and over the pub on a friday, my mate ended up shagging her.
