He cannot do this and stay tight to a winger who has pulled wide. He can only hold his position and attempt to close down when possible. It is essential that midfield centre right and/or wide right track back and either close down the winger or cover the full back! This didn't happen! With hindsight, it might have been better to start with Ned but was Clint fully fit and we have previously felt that Ned isn't a right back anyway. As for midfield again options were very limited as probably none of Vargas, Hoilett or Kranjcar were fully fit either. | | | |
