Sad news indeed. Anyone of a certain age will have good memories of him at not a great period of our history. 200 games for us is a big achievement and 54 is no age.

Sad news & RIP. A minor claim to tv fame is that in the early 90's I was sat as a guest in the Grandstand studio by one of the monitors you used to see in the background . It had a videprinter running and when it came up that Hesford had scored for Maidstone I pointed out to a researcher that he was the goalkeeper which he hadn't picked up . . A hand written note was swiftly passed to Steve Rider who promptly informed the viewing public ,(there weren't many - I think it was the first time ITV had got hold of the rugby ) | | | |

The players wore black armbands. To be honest, we would have a lot of minute's silences if they did it for all ex-players so unless it is a Matthews, Finney etc - some huge historical figure for that club, then maybe the armbands are a good compromise. | | | |
