Defoe on 15:03 - Nov 4 with 1483 views | WadR | I think comparisons to Eto'o are a little wide of the mark. Eto'o has been one of the best strikers in the world over the last 10 years and has a record of a goal every other game whilst playing for Barca, Inter etc. And his all round game is vastly superior, he is playing generally in behind the front man for Everton and did so for Anzhi too. Defoe is a far more limited player. Not that I believe even QPR would be stupid enough to give him a 3 year deal on that much money. Almost definitely boll ocks.

Defoe on 14:57 - Nov 4 by paulparker | Sorry I love Austin & vargas as players but Defoe is a much better finisher than the pair of them Spurs 274 apps, 90 goals Portsmouth 30 apps, 14 goals West Ham 93 apps, 29 goals Toronto 19 apps, 11 goals England 55 apps, 19 goals the majority of his time he has been on the bench especially for Spurs & England if the deal is right and we are not spunking to much on wages then it could be a good bit of business for us, he is proven and that's what we need |
We already have two good finishers, we need another hold up man to take the weight off Zamora.

Defoe on 14:11 - Nov 4 by paulparker | I must be in a minority of 1 who thinks Defoe is a world class finisher he should have been England's main striker from 2006 to 2010 if he got us 10 goals from January onwards we would have done well and will stay up Eto seems to be doing ok at Everton & is the same age & type of player that Defoe is |
You are not alone . We had a frank conversation about him a few days ago . I think he is ideal for a January signing . He is a natural goalscorer, give him the service and he will score . If Charlie gets injured or loses form and Defoe scored the goals to secure the Prem cash he will pay for himself. A release clause for relegation obviously required
Defoe on 15:21 - Nov 4 with 1433 views | 08olesen | He wont be paid anything like 90k. he wants to leave the MLS too remember. i really dont think we need that much in Jan. I would take Defoe on loan and then 6ft 4 Michiel Kramer who already has 8 goals in the eredivise to do the holding role in Bob ever breaks down.

Defoe on 15:22 - Nov 4 with 1431 views | kensalriser | A six-month pay as you play deal would be appropriate given his age and the likelihood that he's now just another crock.

Michiel Kramer has 8 goals in 11 matches, is 6.4 and only 25. He plays for a team that are floating above the relegation zone in Holland, so may be able to get him on the cheap. He hasnt played for spurs though!

Only 19 appearances for Toronto ????? In all the time he's been there ? Says it all.

Defoe on 16:17 - Nov 4 with 1314 views | nadera78 | To say I have less than zero interest in Defoe would be an understatement. We should be looking at the absolute minimum amount of disruption in January - I know that goes against everything the club does these days - and bringing in only players that we really do need. We're only just starting to get some rhythm going, and we still have a couple of midfielders to come back from injury, the last thing we need or want is more disruption.

MLS season is 34 games, Defoe was injured for almost half of them. For a striker of Defoe's ability and experience 11 goals is not exceptional. Eighteen players scored more than he did, including well known names such as Gyasi Zardes and Sebastien Le Tout. Bradley Wright-Phillips lead the league with 27. [Post edited 4 Nov 2014 17:07]

'Was' a much better finisher. Is not now, never will be again, a busted flush, a waste of time, a man who thinks he's far better than he is, was on the bench a lot FOR A REASON, and virtually useless away from home. A stupid signing that is a complete waste of time and money if it happens. Why do we need 'proven'? What does that mean? Why does it apparently guarantee you something? Rio was 'proven'. Park was 'proven'. Bosingwa was 'proven' - a Champions League winner only months earlier FFS! This signing would be a return to a philosophy that has been failing us for years. 3 goals in 30 games in his last year with Spurs. DEVASTATING! [Post edited 4 Nov 2014 17:16]

Defoe on 17:24 - Nov 4 with 1173 views | whittocksRs | Absolutely no desire to see him in a QPR shirt but you just know it will happen. Hopefully the Standard are as fecking useless as usual and are simply quoting verbatim what Defoe's agent is claiming. This story reminds me that though 'Arry has done a bit of work over the past few weeks he's a lost cause as a manager that could put together a strong future footing for the club.

and there we go. None of this will matter, because we will sign him anyway, but it's not a good signing IMO. I'd genuinely rather sign Bradley Wright Phillips, that's how bad I think the Defoe signing is.

Disagree Antti, Defoe can still do a job for us , a partnership with Austin with vargas behind would be very good and would help us stay up if we are looking to sign a player who hasn't played Premier league/English Football in the January window its a gamble, a gamble which might not pay off , players like that need a pre season January transfers are quick fixes and that's what we need a striker who knows where the goal is and knows the league, going back to your point on Proven Rio is finished, and was a stupid signing I agree Park - only those behind the scenes, (fergie) and the player himself knew he was finished, the rest of us were saying it was a great signing Boswinga- I never rated and thought Meh when he signed Defoe was on the Bench as AVB thought Soldado was better he was on the bench when Arry was there as he played 1 upfront with Van der Vart behind Adebyour Defoe is 32 , has never been a crock, he is deadly in the 6 yard box, and we need options I love Austin as a player and think he will go on to be a great player but if you gave that chance when he was 1 on 1 with the Liverpool keeper a couple of weeks back I reckon Defoe would have scored and that's the difference in staying in this league
| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

And therein is the problem. It will be just as difficult to get a top Champ striker from a club still in the mix and the only Prem strikers available will be failures or crocks. Only two options I can see - a loan from an upper Prem team or a player currently banging them in somewhere in Europe who wants to play in the Premier League.
