Soundbar 14:46 - Sep 8 with 3357 views | Phildo | Have just built a kitchen extension and have had the house data cabled. I have worked out how to feed sky etc into a new TV in the kitchen but i would like to get a decent soundbar the can double as a music player. Mrs Phildo to my surprise yesterday sanctioned a sonos playbar on the basis we can add to it with other speakers over time. Anyone here any experience with these or view of alternatives?
Soundbar on 17:06 - Sep 8 with 3221 views | queensparker | I've got a Sonos in the front room and kitchen, best gadget I've ever bought, definitely recommend them. Easy to set up and you can play all your iTunes / hard drive music / Spotify / radio etc and control it all off your phone. Brilliant for parties as well. Sound quality is decent too (I've got one Sonos 3 and one Sonos 5). Would love to get a soundbar and put it in some other rooms but unlike you the missus has put a hold on it for the time being... It's pricey compared with some of the other alternatives but well worth it IMO
Soundbar on 20:33 - Sep 8 with 3087 views | chris1969 | Watching the football in the kitchen through the Sonos Soundbar right now. Will transform the usual sound you get on TV's but comes into it's own streaming music. Great sound, simple set up and Sonos and Spotify work well together. Have the Sonos 5 in another room and you can play different music in each room. As said before cheaper alternatives but Sonos is hard to beat for the all round experience. I would love the wireless Subwoofer but can't justify it......yet

Soundbar on 23:21 - Sep 8 with 2927 views | OxfordR | Also got Sonos system, 1 and 5 so far and planning to add the play bar soon. As other say they are the nuts. When I was looking into it I found a review that said, in a new market, they've been around for nearly ten years so I figured they must be doing something right.

Soundbar on 08:25 - Sep 9 with 2824 views | BrianMcCarthy | Just moved back into my house after a few yes of travelling, and this very interesting, thanks. Can I ask one question - can I stream Spotify and iTunes on a playbar, r do I need a Sonos or equivalent for that?

go for the sonos , got a sound bar on the 4k tv, a 3 in the kitchen, a 5 in the lounge and a one in the bedroom , plug and play decent sound and if you get the cash add the sub to the sound bar to annoy the neighbours plenty of bass never hurts anyone, no remote control needed as you just the ap for your phone , its pricey but so worth it when you think of not having to fuss with wiring in each room

Soundbar on 11:23 - Sep 9 with 2705 views | westberksr | recently installed a mahussive Sonos system to replace a multi room system that died on me and the sound bar was the final bit. works really well in boosting the sound from the crappy speakers in my plasma and adds the streaming too. very happy with it even without the sub. if you are planning to fit Sonos elsewhere (very good kit) it's a piece of piss once you get it running. Itunes off the laptop or any other music service you use; Google play works well with it. [Post edited 9 Sep 2014 11:23]

Chris, how do get Spotify on there to work well, on mine it comes up with quite limited choices and doesn't appear to have access to the full fat spotify. i've looked on the sonos forums and it seems to be an agreement issue between sonos and spotify. would be nice to get access to all of the playlists on the regualr spotify via the sonos.

It's basically a very wide stereo speaker that sits under or on top of your TV. Full 5.1 systems may be too expensive, too big, too complex etc. especailly if you're moving a lot. Sound bars are a good way to replicate surround sound but still can't beat a dedicated system. That said, it's infinately better that most tv's crappy speakers.

it seems some of the big tv companies are gonna stop putting speakers in fairly soon , most people link thm up to a sound bar , or home cinema system my samung internal speakers were awful so plugged the sonos in and the rest is history

Stopped off in the local electrical shop after work and had a chat with the owner, who I trust. Told him everything I'd gleaned on here and he stayed talking for ages, playing choons through the system at full blast even after the shop had closed. It worked. Got a Sonos 5 and Bridge, might add the sub when I have the cash again, set it up in about half an hour. Sound is amazing, I've got access to all my music and Spotify as well. Will now crack open a beer. First album will be Physical Graffiti! Thanks wombat for answering my questions, and to you all. Couldn't be happier. Have a decent sound system now for the first time in a good few years.

Haha love it - good man Brian. It really is the bollox. My favourite Sonos moment was having my folks over and after dinner and many drinks Dad sat there with the iPad on his lap. After 5 mins he was blasting out his old favourite Yardbirds and Kinks and Rosemary Clooney tracks. Like having the world's best jukebox in your house

I'll have to get a second bridge alright. I just moved the 5 player out to my back room/den and it's too far for the Wi-Fi to reach. Still, though, it's the message! Just cooked the dinner to Nick Drake and the sound is phenomenal. I'd been making do with Spotify on the laptop speakers or the iPod through a jack to an old stereo. This is infinitely better. Like your story, love having people around and telling them that they're in charge of the music. Within reason, like, obviously!

We do the same few beers ask anyone sober enough to remember songs and stick them on honestly best bit of kit I've ever bought

Soundbar on 08:13 - Sep 10 with 2312 views | westberksr | we have it dotted around the house (8 zones in total including the garden) and for parties you can just load up a playlist and forget about it, then chip in with the 'live dj' whenever anyone brings up the background music. great fun until people start disagreeing about which version of a tune is the definitive one! still need to suss if the spotify 'radio' feature works via Sonos; stumped so far. Google's does but not as good as Spoti's.
