Well, first night in Naples passed off without incident. None of us were stabbed or beaten senseless (rendered senseless by beer yes). Constant police patrols past main strip of bars on bay front showing a good presence all night so felt very safe. City is totally chaotic is best way to describe it, but all good so far. | |

Dont want to be a doom and gloom merchant but, their was some one posting on here last week, i think it was a napoli fan, advising people not to get a taxi to the ground, as napoli fans never use taxi,s to the ground and who ever does gets set upon. I think he mentioned real fans getting attacked this way. Maybe get a taxi to ten min walk from the ground and walk the rest of the way? | | | |

There's a run of bars including The Penny Black pub which was rammed last night along the pedestrianised section on Via Partenope by the castle sticking out in the bay. We're likely to head back there tonight I'd think. | |

Flying in to Naples for 4pm.
Cutting it a bit fine for the buses leaving at 5pm I know. Going to quickly grab a taxi and drop bags off on route at the hotel. Google maps times suggest that's doable.
Slightly concerned if that doesn't work as the advice seems to suggest every other means of getting to the stadium should be avoided.... |
Does anyone know where I can get information about the busses that are leaving from Naples portside to the ground - like when they leave and from where? There's no info on official website.

Just parked my car . . . . OMG my sat nav took us through ALL the narrow streets !!!
Anyway, the car parking guys gave us a bit of banter about the game but told us to take the metro which is near to our hotel - direct to the ground and there would be no trouble !!!
The hotel staff say much the same !

Great day...so far. Went up Vesuvius, met Nev from the call centre, had a crash in taxi with a German tourist, police called to resolve matters, met an old school friend who turns out to be Edmundo on here, went to Pompeii, all good. Just heading out now for night and more stories I'm sure. | |

I quickly read through this thread. I am glad to hear that so far things have gone well. I have however read of one of you staying in Piazza Bellini: Just a word of caution, that is the hung out of the Curva A ultras groups, and last week some of them seemed to be pissed at being mostly outsung, so be extra careful around that area. For those of you looking for the best pizza in the city, in a nicer and safer area, a modern and welcoming pizzeria has just opened in Piazza Sannazaaro, near the sea front, run by the best pizzamaker in the city. The place is called 50 Kalò di Ciro Salvo. Worth trying if in the area, especially at lunch (less busy).

unless you have dark hair and skin and wear something in the local style, you could be easily spotted as british, the scarf can't help, people might ask you something and how will you answer?????
I'm from Napoli myself and I can only recommend to use your organized buses to go to the stadium.
Metro train is gonna be full of Napoli fans and you have to walk beside some bars were ultras groups are gathering.
Most of them will ignore you (if you don't look like an hooligan and/or wear a swansea scarf) because we don't care about normal fans, we only look for people willing to have 'some fun'.
Unfortunately not all are the same and an attack can be highly possible even to normal people and fans.
By the way, same threatment was used by liverpool and man city against Napoli fans when we played there, even the swedish of AIK show how brave they are attacking normal people with baseball bat and police watching at the other side...
In one thing you can count on in Napoli, police will do their best to defend you from Napoli attacks, in the other hand they might be the worst hooligans if you try to do something they dont like.
For the ones that will spend few days in my city, enjoy it, its dirty and messy but it's one of the most genuine and less european city you might visit, full of art, history and wonderful views.

Well, we got the tube - full of Napoli fans !! NO problem and we even got escorted to the ground by Napoli fans.
Over the top policing - show our passports three times just to get into the ground butr still no trouble. On our own until 20 minutes into the game when the bus travellers finally arrived ( This is another story I'm sure will be well discussed on other threads ).
After the game we were in the bar back near our hotel by 10.15 - a full hour before the bus travellers !!!
Were we threatened by the Napoli fans??? NOT at all - The only problem we had was from the behaviour of our own fans who amongst other things were smoking on the terraces , urinating on the open stairwells and then tussling with the stewards and almost causing a riot !!!

Thank you Napoli for making our football journey a great memory.
