WARNING: Don't read this if you don't like religious aguments

Is the muslim call to prayer over loudspeaker legal in this country? Because it was blasted out, loud as you like over Tweedale Street / Rochdale station area a few days back. And my daughter heard it in Blackburn a couple of days ago.

The worm of time turns not for the cuckoo of circumstance.

It's very convenient for many to hide behind semantics, D'Alien (Not you, I hasten to add), but if it walks like a duck and sounds like a duck, call it a duck.

I live next to some ducks. Those nice westernised ducks. They don't harm anyone, and go about their business quacking away. Its those other ducks I can't stand. Shoving their duck views down peoples necks. 'Come and be a duck'... 'Ducks are great'... 'If you don't join our extreme duckism, then you'll die the death of a thousands cuts'. Or I think that's what they say, I don't understand duck, but someone in the Daily Mail said, so it has to be true. If you read their religious scriptures, they call it the 'Good Duck' it has loads on living the life of being a good duck, but some people seem to have misinterpreted 'love thy pond neighbour' to 'lets cause a duck rumpus'. Its all very confusing to a layman like me. ....

Can anyone help?

Well, I can't recall, off-hand, any threads questioning the legality of broadcasting any other loud sounds (music, say, or electioneering, or even tannoy-announcements from football grounds!). Of course I may have missed them.

As people know the specific things you've mentioned currently aren't against the law it would be rather pointless questioning the topics you suggest? Youve certainly missed something, the ability to read an explanation out of a dictionary, obviously.

It depends whether you're interpreting duckism through the prism of duck breasts or duck legs.

Long since past caring or getting involved in the whole race argument - it will not change a thing.

Having said that claiming I was a practicing Jew got me out of working Saturdays - as nobody dare question it in case they were branded racist or unaccomodating to someone elses religious beliefs - you could not make it up!!!!

I wonder why we don't have many Asian,s coming to the Dale.

I believe one of our regular posters was it "Maybe" said he sat next to two Asian lads at the Leeds game who promptly told him they were from Rochdale but were Leeds fans and that they would never watch "crappy" Rochdale.
Seems to me we wouldn't want losers like this anyway, obviously no idea of football in general just following big teams like so many other Asians.
Perhaps if they intergrated a bit more they might feel welcomed instead of alienating the local population.
Just a thought

well that will help us increase attendence! Dont you dare consider ocasionally watching a higher level of football and then think of coming to Spotland.

I suppose this is a purely asian thing is it?

I was at Old trafford last night - does that make me unwelcome at spotland - or is it just Asians who support other teams you feel are unwelcome.

Sensitive chappy are you?
As it happens if you had an aggressive nature towards Rochdale then I would suggest you didn't bother.
I believe these two morons had a quite aggressive outlook towards our club.
I am assuming you don't so I have no problem with people watching higher league football and having a "second" but to disrespect your own town is not really acceptable I am sure you agree?

I don't feel alienated from the Asians in my community. I also happen to think they've integrated pretty well around where I live...is there something I'm missing about what makes Asian people so bad for you?

Please don't draw on this topic.
What area do you live in? I don't need a reply.
I was born in Deeplish and grew up there, so think I have a fair valid right to state my opinion.
I have my opinion sir as you do and I also have inside knowledge of other issues surrounding this town to prove integration hasn't always happened as one would wish.
I think this topic is getting a little out of hand so I will withdraw graciously to my corner as you should to yours.

I'll withdraw when I fancy it.

I live in Bury now but I grew up in Bamford. Went to school at Oulder Hill and had plenty of Asians in all of my classes. Stayed friends with quite a few of them, and honestly don't see what makes them so much worse than the non-Asian chavs that made school such a pain, and continue to be a nuisance. Being white hasn't made these people a nuisance, being a nobhead has. Being Asian doesn't make someone a nuisance, being a nobhead does.

Yes, there's plenty of cases in which unfortunate and horrible things have happened, and yes sometimes there are Asians involved, but that is not an excuse to belittle them and make them out to be the bad people you obviously believe they are.

Bamford eh LOL
Well if you wont withdraw then for starters I should show the way towards the BBC Two programme The Town Planners. That was a shambolic show of steamrollering over any type of fair justice and was overtly "racist" in its content.
I also have contacts within social services and police which would make your hair go grey since I imagine you are not of a middle age just yet.
I am glad you have good Asian friends that is great news but may I also point out that at present the bad far outweighs the good, and do you know why?
Because "all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that a few good men do nothing"
Intergration is a two way thing it is not a demand or a right! We are the most tolerant county in the world yet time and again our laws and goodwill has been abused.

Firstly, why does Bamford qualify for 'LOL' ? Is there something humorous about the area or the people who grew up there ? I'd love to know the reasoning behind your comment.

Secondly, I also went to Oulder Hill when it was situated on King Street in the town centre. (Now a car park behind the job centre) It was then called Broadfield, changed its' name to Oulder Hill and was transferred to its' present site. Likewise, there were many Asians at the school, but the real dick-heads weren't the Asians. There is no qualifying skin colour or ethnic minority background required to become a dick-head. It's personal choice for those concerned. Just the same as any football team you may choose to follow, it's your choice.

Similarly, those who choose to commit crime, whichever crime they select, do so because they choose to do so. It has nothing to do with their background - it is their personal choice as individuals. Those who commit the crimes and who are found guilty end up in the same place. There is no distinguishing them from each other. They are all criminals.

I'll venture to suggest that proportionately, there are fewer crimes of all kinds committed by Asians than other members of our society. From my long personal experience of meeting, befriending, working alongside and dealing with Asians - and that includes Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and others - (and also living next door to them for over 20 years) I can confidently state that the overwhelming majority of them are as decent, polite, loyal, trustworthy and honest as any other member of our community.

Quoting a single BBC TV programme is no proof of anything. It's no more representative than reading the Sun and expecting every 20 year-old blonde from Essex to walk down the street topless.

The thing that makes my hair go grey is having to listen to bigots trying to undermine specific sections of the community with ill-informed opinions that have no basis in fact.

I agree with most of what you say. But,

"Similarly, those who choose to commit crime, whichever crime they select, do so because they choose to do so. It has nothing to do with their background - it is their personal choice"

I would argue, the background upon which they are raised, contributes significantly to their decision making.

Be that suicide bombing.

Be that Nazis v Jews.

Be that Ireland.

And so on....

Culture influences decisions, not the individual, because most individuals are like sheep.

Good post in general - however - "I'll venture to suggest that proportionately, there are fewer crimes of all kinds committed by Asians than other members of our society." Crazy!!!

You spend ages suggesting a dickhead is a dickhead and a criminal is a criminal and then take the opinion Asians are less likely to commit crime than others. If I were to suggest the opposite I would be branded racist by some - thats where the whole argument falls down.

I tend to find some Asians are thieving lying bastards, just as some English, Polish, Spanish, African, .... oh hang on - some people are thieving lying bastards - thats better :)
